On the Market: Sleep in Edward Cullen's Bedroom

All right, Twilight fans, here's your chance to get a little closer to Edward Cullen. The Vancouver residence that the Cullens inhabit in the New Moon film is for sale for $3.3 million through Soprovich Realty.

The five-bedroom, four-bath home is a modernist's dream, with extensive use of glass and post and beam style throughout the soaring, open spaces. The fantastic views of the surrounding Pacific Northwest landscape only add to this home's considerable charm. According to the realtor's listing,

This is not the same house used in Twilight. That house was designed by architect Jeff Kovel of Skylab Architecture. For New Moon, the filming was moved to Vancouver, BC, and the Erickson-designed house, which was also featured in the John Cusack film Martian Child, became the Cullen home for the second film in the Twilight saga.

On the Market: Former New Orleans Home of Vampire Enthusiast Anne Rice

The former New Orleans home of Anne Rice, author of Interview With the Vampire and the Vampire Chronicles series, is on the market for $3.7 million. The 1850s home has a transitional style, with both Greek Revival and Italianate elements. It boasts double galleries with Corinthian and Ionic columns, massive antique beveled mirrors in the double parlors, antique landscape murals in the dining room, gorgeous millwork, and exquisite plated ceilings.

The house was the inspiration for Mayfair Manor, the Garden District home of the characters in Rice's Mayfair Witches. The home's oak tree, swimming pool, and iron scrollwork side porch figure prominently into the script. Rice and her late husband, poet and painter Stan Rice, lived there from 1989 to 2004. With five bedrooms and seven-and-two-half baths, a pond, a three-car garage, a guest house, a cabana, and a courtyard, it's truly a dream home. On the Market: Spend Some Green on this Green Day House

While Green Day lead singer and guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong may hail from working-class roots, his Bay Area home, which is now on the market for $4.85 million, shows that he's certainly not living on a boulevard of broken dreams.
I wouldn't read anything into the decor of the house, or Armstrong's punk sensibilities (or lack thereof), since I'm sure that this house has been staged within an inch of its life. Whoever staged it seems to have taken a little too much inspiration from Napa Style, Pottery Barn, and a really unfortunate mix of poorly sourced Moroccan influences.

Located in the swanky Upper Rockridge neighborhood of Oakland, the Mediterranean-style five-bedroom, four- and two-half bath home spreads across 7,000 square feet on a nearly 1/2 acre double lot. Built a little more than 10 years ago, the home features a pool, pool house, and professional music studio.

The listing for the property notes that the "original Julia Morgan steps [are] intact." Armstrong's house was built on the site of Red Gate, a gorgeous mansion built for Charles Wells by one of my favorite architects, Julia Morgan. The home apparently burned down in the 1991 Oakland fires. And while I'm sure that Mark Becker, the architect commissioned by Armstrong to build his home, is a fine designer and builder, hardly anyone can, in my opinion, compare to Julia Morgan's sublime style.

On the Market: Melrose Place Apartments

If you ever dreamed of living in West Hollywood's most scandalous courtyard complex, now's your chance to make life at Melrose Place a real estate reality - sort of. To promote the new series of the '90s prime time drama, a fake real estate listing for Melrose Place Apartments has hit the web, complete with photos of an apartment in the complex and a panoramic tour. Features include "hardwood floors, an absolutely killer kitchen, vintage appliances, water pressure to-die-for, huge bedrooms, French doors, an original clawfoot tub, and closet space for two."

Sound appealing? A rental application is available for any of you interested parties. Be prepared to list your publicist, agent, mistress, and long-lost child as references, and answer questions like, "Do you consider yourself a strong swimmer/ skinny dipper?" to be accepted, though. French designer Yves Saint Laurent, who passed away in June 2008, is known for his iconic fashions. However, the designer also had a discerning eye when it came to the world of real estate. His Moroccan home, Villa Mabrouka, or "House of Luck," is currently on the market, and I am swooning over the house's location, style, and interior design.

Interior Design notes,

The Moroccan home represents a collaboration between two of the great French aesthetes of the 20th century: Laurent, who turned pantsuits and safari jackets into haute couture, and Jacques Grange, the only interior designer ever to receive the Légion d'Honneur, France's highest decoration. Perched on a cliff overlooking the coast of the Spanish region of Andalusia and the Strait of Gibraltar, the 9,688-square-foot home rests on nearly two acres of grounds landscaped by Madison Cox, featuring soaring palms, Italian lemon trees, and extensive lawns. A heated swimming pool was excavated into the mountain rocks on which the estate stands, while a nearby pavilion was designed by architect Stuart Church.

On the Market: Daryl Hall of Hall & Oates's Restored Revolutionary War Georgian Colonial

It's always interesting to see how the other side lives but, in many cases, the celebrity homes you see are underwhelming, cookie-cutter LA mansions. As for this restored Revolutionary War Georgian colonial recently listed by Daryl Hall of Hall & Oates, I'd consider it a coveted crib even if one half of history's most successful music duos didn't sleep in it. Beyond its good looks, there's much more of a story behind these digs than the "unparalleled views" and "updated appliances" of those California cribs.The Dutchess County, NY, property, known as Flint Hill, is actually two museum-quality homes that once belonged to Revolutionary War captains, and have since been joined through a beamed living area with a fireplace. The 6,363-square-foot home, four-bedroom, five-and-two-half-bath home has 24 rooms, nine fireplaces, four guesthouses, an indoor pool, and a pergola.

Hall himself took on the project of having these homes painstakingly restored. One was built in 1771, the other in 1780, and they initially sat on different properties. After moving them together, he discovered that by coincidence they were connected to the same family. Now, this architectural tour de force sits on a 245-plus acre estate with 100-mile views of the Catskills, ponds, old apple orchards, stone walls, farm roads, gardens, and a Neolithic firepit. Need some space to spread out in San Francisco? Then check out this four-level home in the Pacific Heights neighborhood. While this is likely way out of most of our buying ranges, it's still fun to window shop.

Everyone loves the '86 classic Ferris Bueller's Day Off for its comedic plot and script, but for design fiends, it's a favorite for its real-estate porn. The contemporary home of uptight character Cameron Frye, through which a vintage Ferrari famously plunged into the ravine below, is a 20th-century gem, designed by noted architects James Speyer and David Haid - and it's on the market.
The 5,300-square-foot, 4-bedroom, 4-bath home belonged to successful textile designer Ben Rose, and is listed at $2.3 million. It's composed of two steel and glass buildings, cantilevered over the ravine, giving it incredible views of the surrounding woods.
