Whitney Houston Lists Her Round House

Whitney Houston has put her 12,561-square-foot, five-bedroom, four-and-one-half-bath Mendham, NJ, house on the market for $2.5 million. The most notable element of the house, which was featured on her short-lived reality show Being Bobby Brown, is that it's entirely round. It also has soaring ceilings and beautiful natural light, but if you have a thing for angles, this house won't do. According to the listing, it was built in 1992, while Real Estalker says Houston snapped up the mansion at the height of her fame in 1987. But regardless, it looks pretty '80s to me! I do like her Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired glass panes, but the vertical blinds, peach-colored décor, and drapey window valances are beyond tacky. Coveted Crib: Eli Manning's Jersey Digs

Electronic House recently toured the home of New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning and his wife Abby in Hoboken, NJ (although he's actually a New Orleans boy), which is decked to the nines in the latest technologies. Casa Verde: Alabama Chanin's Interiors Collection

While I've featured Alabama Chanin before, the design company's site has beautiful new interior pictures that I thought were worth reflecting upon. Alabama Chanin, the collection of designer Natalie Chanin, features clothing and interior decor pieces that strive to be as environmentally sensitive as possible. Organic cotton, natural indigo dyes, and US-made products are all part of the line. The interior collection offers limited-edition pieces for the home that emphasize upcycling. Natali calls the collection "Alabama Studio Style." Right now, Alabama Chanin's collection includes home furnishings as well as decorative pieces.

All of the lighting and furniture are handmade, artisan creations that were found in vintage shops, flea markets, or scrapyards in the southeastern United States, and then repurposed. Old metal scraps have been transformed into sculptural objects, and farm chairs feature new seats woven from cotton jersey scraps and old ties. Chandeliers made with old lighting fixtures are decorated with cow bones, string, metals, and sticks retrieved from river beds. Ancient, tattered quilts have been washed, patched, and decorated with appliques and decorative stitching, and all of the pillows in the interiors collection are made from 100 percent Certified Organic Cotton from the Alabama Chanin Fabric Line.

Before and After: A Stylish Secretary

I just came across interior designer Eddie Ross's makeover of a beautiful secretary he found at a New Jersey consignment shop, and I couldn't help but share it with you. The Chippendale style of the desk with its graphic grille and shapely top facade is very elegant, but the reddish mahogany veneer was very dated. So, Ross decided to make it over with a fresh coat of his favorite paint, Farrow & Ball's All White, and a mirror fit for behind the grille. To see the transformation, read more.

Before and After: An Eco-Oriented Bathroom Remodel

New Jersey residents Mark and Linda Beckelmen decided that it was high time to renovate the bathroom in their 1929 craftsman.They wanted to stick to a reasonable budget, and upgrade the bathroom with green features. As it stood, their bathroom was dated by laminate and wallpaper that needed to go elsewhere - stat.

Eco Chic: Previously Developed Land

No one will tell you that building a new home rather than purchasing one that already exists is environmentally friendly — even if you use salvaged materials. So, if you're considering building a new home, find a lot that's previously been built on. Previously developed land (PDL) that is vacant or unused is a wasted resource. Building on PDL does not disturb wildlife, and keeps our natural assets intact. There may also be a cash incentive to leaving nature untouched. When asked about the value of New Jersey's natural assets, Bill Mates of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, said they're worth a lot:

At least $26 billion a year worth of goods and services. And that $26 billion a year is worth about $850 billion in present value terms.

If you have no plans to build a home but have money to spare, consider purchasing undeveloped land and leaving it that way. It's the only property that can't be reproduced.

Are You Offended by This House's Paint Color?

Some communities have ordinances against certain paint colors, and others wish they did after the fact. I personally think that anyone who owns a house should be able to paint it as they please. Some of these New Jersey residents, however, would disagree with me.

This Just In: Brett Favre Lists His Wisco Quarters

Quarterback Brett Favre has put his 3,000-square-foot, four-bedroom, three-bath Ashwaubenon, WI, home on the market for $475,000, according to Real Estalker. The property description reads:

Outstanding spacious ranch home on a beautiful landscaped lot. 4 bedrooms, 3 full baths and 1st floor laundry. Enjoy the formal dining room w/ FP & wet bar. Large 3+ stall garage.

This makes perfect sense, as Favre was recently traded from the Green Bay Packers to the New York Jets. I heard from a friend that Favre had moved to Morristown, NJ, which is a few minutes away from the Jets training camp in Florham Park, NJ. After a little detective work, I learned that this is exactly the case; according to The Star-Ledger, Favre told the paper in early September, "We just bought a house in Morristown and (daughter) Breleigh started school on Wednesday." Sayonara Midwest, hello Jersey!
