The Box, the new thriller from Donnie Darko director Richard Kelly, tells the story of a financially troubled married couple who receive a box containing a button. The next morning, a creepy mysterious stranger tells them that they will receive $1 million if they push the button, but someone in the world will die. The movie, which is based on a short story by Richard Matheson, is set in Richmond, VA, in the year 1976, so there's plenty of fun, funky styling to the set.

Writer Nick Hornby's movie An Education chronicles the coming-of-age story of a teenage girl in 1960s suburban London, whose life is affected by the arrival of a playboy nearly twice her age. With a great cast including Carey Mulligan, Peter Sarsgaard, Emma Thompson, Alfred Molina, and Rosamund Pike, the movie features fab set design and gorgeous dresses. Check it out in theaters this Friday, but for now, see how you can translate Mulligan's gorgeous dresses to your home.

I adore this sofa, which is featured in The Invention of Lying. It has great, clean lines and a modern shape, but still looks cozy, and the neutral linen color makes it easy to decorate around. Neutral sofas are a great building block for a number of styles, from classic country to bohemian chic.

I'm really excited to check out Whip It!, the Drew Barrymore directorial debut about roller-derby girls, which opens today. This scene, with lead actress Ellen Page, caught my eye, thanks to the retro music collection on display. While I definitely have vinyl records at my home, our electronics are a bit more updated, and we've tossed the cassettes.

New York, I Love You, which is one of BuzzSugar's Fall Romantic Movie Picks, looks atmospheric and lovely, and boasts a great cast, including Ethan Hawke, Scarlett Johansson, Shia LaBeouf, and Orlando Bloom. In this scene, Emilie Ohana peers out of her open window. I used to love to sit in my windowsill like this, when I lived in a walk-up apartment.

Home is where the wild things are — just ask Urban Outfitters, which recently debuted a line of home accessories based on the movie coming out Oct. 16. I've found even more inspiration looking through the stills from director Spike Jonze's interpretation of the classic children's book.

These wild things make my heart sing. In anticipation of the upcoming big screen adaptation of Where the Wild Things Are, retailer Urban Outfitters has unleashed a relatively tame new collection inspired by the classic children's book.
Like the Spike Jonze-directed flick, these designs take into account the style of the original illustrations while adding a hip, modern twist.

My sister and I recently caught But I'm a Cheerleader on HBO the other night, and my jaw dropped at the awesome, over-the-top set design of the film. It's been years since I've seen the 1999 satirical romantic comedy, whose plot follows the "re-education" of a group of gay teenagers at a therapy camp meant to make the teens heterosexual (spoiler alert: it doesn't work). Fittingly for a movie that borrows a John Waters-esque vibe, the set design embraces a vivid, surreal look, including lots of pink, pink, pink for the girls.

While I'm pretty much guaranteed to cry all over this film, that possibility isn't deterring me from heading to the theaters later this month to watch The Boys Are Back. And yes, it also doesn't hurt that one of my favorite actors, Clive Owen, is starring. Following the journey into fatherhood that Owen experiences after the death of his wife, this film, from director Scott Hicks (Shine), is filmed in South Australia at a home, and a property, that are absolutely gorgeous.

Aside from a desire to get cookin', Julie and Julia has left me with a reinvigorated appreciation for traditional design. I always ooh and ahh over movies and television showcasing modern design, but it really doesn't get any better than an elegantly set dinner table dressed with a classic candelabra, or a set of truly charming gingham panels. Let's take a look at how we can get the look of Julie and Julia in our own homes — and kitchens.
