Welcome to the seventh project in my 12 DIYs of Christmas series! I decided to make hand-painted monogrammed tea towels as a gift for a friend that has everything this year. I think taking the extra step to hand-paint this everyday item gives it a personal touch, and shows more effort than any store-bought item.

Even if you don't entertain often, every home should have a classic and simple set of table linens, for the occasion that guests drop by and to nudge you to actually sit down and enjoy your brunch every Sunday morning. If you've inherited some antique linens, that's wonderful, but you may want to keep them in good shape for parties. There's no need to drop big bucks on your tabletop, especially when the JCPenney Hemstitch Table Linens ($12-$27, 50% off) are so affordable.

This George Monogram ($30 to $35/sq. ft.) by Diane Elson Bankoff is part of Elson & Co.'s children's collection, and I assume it's meant for a nursery. I'm not going to lie: It's certainly a good-looking rug.

Everyone knows someone who can burp the alphabet. I never knew you could sniff the alphabet, though. That is, until I smelled each of these Archipelago Monogrammed Candles ($25, on sale $8) at my local Anthropologie store.

As part of a fun holiday series, I've asked interior design "tastemakers," from designers and stylists to bloggers and shop-owners, to share their favorite go-to holiday gift ideas with me.
I chatted with interior stylist, expert flea marketer, Etsy seller, former Top Design contestant, and blogger Eddie Ross — a man of many talents — about his go-to gift ideas for the holidays and here's what he had to say:
- "A friend of mine, Susan Schneider, makes these amazing matchboxes that I always give as gifts throughout the year. They're covered with gorgeous wallpapers and trimmed in copper, and perfect for the holidays.

Skateboard label Etnies is rolling into the world of hospitality. The California-based brand has designed a skate-inspired hotel suite in Laguna Beach's Casa del Camino. But you won't find any Etnies logo monogrammed sheets here.

When I was a kid, I had the pink striped monogrammed beanbag chair from Lillian Vernon that every other child in America had. It was indulgently comfortable, and the perfect size for a little girl like me, but it certainly didn't win any design awards. Even if you have a chic bean bag chair, I think we should leave the oversize, polypropylene-filled cushions to the kids or the students.

Beyond your average, solid, monogrammed towel, sophisticated beach towels are hard to come by, particularly if you'd like a patterned one. So take note: the Pottery Barn Lauria Beach Towel ($29, reduced from $39) is on sale and completely chic. Its artfully rendered botanical graphic is inspired by the vintage watercolor books that decoupage artist John Derian makes a living on.
