I featured the BBDW Captain's Mirror as a Crave Worthy over a year ago, as well as a Found It! in March, and I still think it's the most handsome mirror I've ever seen. Owning it would be like being married to the dapper Donald Draper - kind of. But at $1,600, it is a serious investment. Lucky for us, there's a more affordable alternative. Cool Idea: Everything in One Hue

Melanie, of the fabulous Etsy shop Plum Cushion, lives in a seriously stylish 1941 Cape Cod in Seattle. The bones of her home are nice, but it's her cool palette and ability to modernize vintage pieces that really make it hip. One of my favorite elements was how she painted her Rococo sconces and mirror and her Chinoiserie console table to match the blue of her walls. Obviously, each piece has an ornate shape that could really stand out if painted in a contrasting color. But they're all so shapely, it would be too busy and competitive if that were the case. Painted to match the walls, her accessories pop and make you give the quaint corner a second look.

These days, most trends are historically referential, be it in fashion, furniture, or even finance. But when it comes to mirrors, all the trends I've been spying as of late have been deeply rooted in the past. Think starburst mirrors, Rococo mirrors, tri-fold mirrors. So, if you're shopping for any of these, you might as well buy an antique or vintage mirror to save yourself a buck (usually) and make your mirror stand out from the crowd of big box buys. Roundup: Sunburst Mirrors

I've been over sunburst mirrors for a long time now. But as other trends gain precedence, they've slowly returned to my favor. I'm really digging how the mirror in this bedroom is used. It's not really a focal point, hung over the bed or the mantel, but just a little accent bringing shine, shape, and pattern into the room. It also fills up the dead space in that corner. I can't quite find an ideal place for one in my own home, but I thought you all might be able to make it work. So here's a roundup of a few sunburst mirrors.

Found It! Bella's New Moon Ornate Floor Mirror

In behind-the-scenes photos from the upcoming and highly buzzed New Moon, Bella Swan's bedroom boasts a fancy ornate wooden floor mirror, in addition to beautiful flocked bedding. Another photo from the set suggests that it may actually be a mirror that attaches to a dresser. But for the sake of the illusion, I hunted down a similar ornate wooden floor mirror for you. The Isabella White Cheval Floor Mirror ($749) is nearly an exact replica with a turned wood base and filigree at the top. If you'd prefer something more affordable, the PBteen Lilac Floor Mirror ($199) is similar in style, although it is rounded.

Found It! Opulent Feather Mirror

I spotted this mirror in the portfolio of über talented designer-to-the-stars Kishani Perera and felt a sharp pang of design envy. Not only is the mirror seriously opulent, it's a showstopper that I'd kill to have in my home. On second thought, I'd seen it before. Wondering where you can snag one for yourself? Love It or Hate It? A Wall of Mismatched Mirrors

In this very eclectic living room, which I think belongs to photographer Debi Treloar, one wall is adorned with an arrangement of mismatched ornate gold mirrors in varying shapes and sizes. In general, I feel like it's hard to go wrong with a mirror. Here, I think the disparity of the mirrors works with the room's sort of lost-and-found vibe. But I'm not sure it would work everywhere. What do you think?

Cool Idea: Cabinet Door Mirror

In a Sydney home tour shot by photographer Todd Selby, I noticed this old cabinet door - check out the knobs in the center behind the plant - repurposed as a mirror, and love the look of it. I've seen old windows repurposed in plenty of ways (see here and here), but never a door. On second thought, this could be a window that opens outward. Regardless, I love how it's both thrifty and polished and how it upcycles something that might otherwise end up in a landfill. Have you repurposed any windows or doors in your home?
