Cool Idea: Man Shack

One of the big reveal moments in I Love You, Man is when Sydney (Jason Segel) shows Peter (Paul Rudd) his man shack. Decked out in leather furniture, a big screen television, Rush albums, and a wall of instruments, it truly is a dude paradise.

While our home doesn't have a man shack, I do sometimes wish there was a man room to accommodate my special someone's dudeness. You know what I mean, ladies - those nights when the music is cranked up to 11 (à la Spinal Tap) or a game of poker is on the agenda. I wouldn't mind the noise and the in-house betting so much if it was in another room (or wing, or house level, for that matter).

Do you have a "man shack" at your casa? Do you think it would improve home relations if you did? Or do you and your better half get along swimmingly while sharing space, no matter what the situation?

Found It! Rees Roberts Bedroom Stool

This photo, from the portfolio of Rees Roberts, would've been a great example of a masculine bedroom. My eyes immediately honed in on the handsome, minimalist stool in the center of the photo. Curious as to where you can get it? Then read more.

It's the Butterfly Stool, by Sori Yanagi ($645). This beautiful, minimalist design is made of plywood molding construction and won the gold medal at the Milan Triennial in 1957.

10 Masculine Bedrooms

A guy friend of mine recently mentioned that he was on the hunt for bedroom furniture, and that he'd had his eye on some bedroom sets. Naturally, I had a strong reaction to this. I find bedroom sets, or furniture sets in general, to be sacrilegious. Buying one would be to openly admit that you have no design sense and you're happy living in a furniture showroom or a hotel with no personal style. A modern man doesn't wear a three-piece suit with a matching button-down every day, does he? So why condone such plain tastes in your décor? Coveted Crib: Silver Lake Man Shack

Crave Worthy: Cotswold Chair

You were understandably enthusiastic about the aptly named Lady Chair. However, I have a hard time imagining those of you who cohabitate with a manly man getting even the smallest, riveted corner of the Lady Chair in your door. If that's the case, then I present you with a testosterone-friendly option: the Cotswald Chair ($1,998) from Anthropologie. With a wide seat, leather whose coloring is described as "bourbon," (it doesn't get much more manly than bourbon), and a mahogany finish, this is a chair that even the most furniture-apathetic man can get enthusiastic about.

While this bedroom has a decidedly masculine vibe, its masculinity is absolutely elegant. From the natural wall treatments to the shaggy rugs, this room is about texture, luxury, and unspoken confidence.

First, establish the mood of the room by papering the walls with Twenty2 Grasscloth Wallpaper. This wallpaper gives the entire room a lush, natural look, and establishes the masculine, slightly safari-esque vibe.

Midday Muse: Masculine Blues

I would never think to drench a room in one dark color from floor to ceiling, but I think it works incredibly well in this masculine midnight-blue room. The Todd Romano-designed space was featured in a 2005 spread of Robert Burke's apartment in Elle Decor.

I recently said to a guy friend of mine, who is redecorating his bedroom, that you're not obliged to use a table with drawers as a nightstand, and you can actually find more affordable and interesting tables that don't have drawers.
