This charming photo, shot by Laura Resen, starred as the cover image for one of my favorite magazines. Can you guess the mag?

I've been stockpiling shelter magazines since before I had my own apartment to decorate. But as my beloved pubs continue to fold (RIP House & Garden and Domino), I want to protect my issues more than ever.
I was delighted to learn of a magazine binding service offered by Denver Bookbinding to aid my archiving efforts.

Découpaging your walls with pages from an old book, antique maps, or magazine covers can instantly transform a boring wall into a conversation piece. Your wallcovering will be one of a kind, a quality that even the most glam wallpaper can't give you. Some of you might think that tearing up a book for any project is sacrilegious.

I've always felt as if it's a bit silly to pretend that people don't read in the bathroom. Granted, many of us love relaxing in the tub with a favorite girly mag. Others keep magazines in a neat stack on the toilet lid or in a magazine rack nearby.

It's always nice to pass them along to friends, but if your friends aren't eco-conscious, it's likely they'll end up in a landfill. So, here are a few suggestions on what to do with your light reading when it starts to get heavy.

Lucky for me, as an editor I get subscriptions to all my favorite magazines, so I don't have to choose. But I want to know which home magazine this year you couldn't live (or decorate) without. Vote in this poll and we'll see which title comes out on top.

Lots of companies sell magazine racks that resemble ladders, like this Chiasso Scooter Magazine Rack ($118). But for a touch of character, try making your own rack out of an antique ladder. Readily available online and at flea markets and antique stores, rustic ladders can be propped up against a wall to hold all sorts of things: Real Simple recommends using ladders as racks for towels, periodicals, and jewelry, and I also like this use of a rustic ladder to hold quilts.
