Nice and New: Lace Shopping Basket at the Container Store
You might have seen the Design House Stockholm Carrie Shopping Basket when I featured it in my Not Your Grandma's Lace Trend Alert, or even snuck a peek of it used as a magazine holder in my very own house. I must admit, I shelled out $44 for the basket from Zinc Details — kind of a lot for my shelter mag storage, but I couldn't resist! When I caught it selling for $37 at Unica Home, I felt a little cheated.

Kate's Paperie's Lace Thank-You Notes ($25 for 6) may be letterpressed with antique lace patterns, but they're certainly not your granny's doilies. On the contrary, they have a modern sophistication that reflects the lace trend that's happening now. I'm loving the sage, navy, and aqua color palette; I'd actually love to snip off the text and frame them together somehow.
Cool Idea: Subversive Lace
Recently, I showed you one artist who was reclaiming crochet as a cool craft. Hot on the heels of this trend comes a new fabric design one of my favorite companies, Scotland's Timorous Beasties. The subtly shocking Devil Damask ($140 per yard), which is a custom cotton lace design, takes the established identity of lace as something dainty and ladylike and turns it on its head.

Brit fashion designer Vivienne Westwood's apparel may be too punky to wear for some, but her new collection of wallpaper for Cole & Son has just enough whimsy for every house. From her iconic Squiggle print of Fall/Winter 1981-92 to her more recent Cutout Lace of Spring/Summer '07, all of her wallpapers are based on signature designs from her fashion collections.
