Glory, glory to the world! New York Fashion Week is here again! Marchesa's 2010 Fall collection has transported me to a faraway fairytale dressup land filled with rich electric hues, oceanic ruffles, pleated tulle of little girl's dreams, black bows galore, and embroidered paisley motifs finally, finally done right.

Mushrooms are proving that they have staying power as a trend, and this photo from Alice in Wonderland shows why: the fungus's form is obviously intriguing. It's inspired a number of recent furniture and home accent designs, including this Thomas Wold Mushroom 7-Top Coffee Table ($985) from Velocity Art and Design. I love the whimsical look of this coffee table, even if it's not the most practical design.

Eccentric San Francisco company Cordarounds specializes in horizontal corduroy pants, though it also dabbles in such other eclectic wear as skirtarounds and reversible smoking jackets. You can buy any of these items online here. However, if you're more interested in how you can incorporate corduroy into your home, you're in luck, because I've found some fun corduroy items for your casa as well.

It makes sense that a movie with "imaginarium" in the title would have some decorating inspiration within. Most famous for being the last movie Heath Ledger made before his death, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus comes out in limited release on Dec. 25.

I'm loving this houndstooth cape that Emma Thompson is sporting in Pirate Radio. Houndstooth, which is characterized by a duotone textile pattern comprised of broken checks, is traditionally seen in black and white, but other color patterns are also common.
Inspired by Emma's fab cape, I looked for more housewares-oriented houndstooth.

When I spotted this picture of director Laurent Tirard at the International Rome Film Festival, my eyes immediately wandered to the gorgeous tufted velvet cubes to the director's right. They look so luxe that I immediately wanted to add one to my own home.
Tufted velvet combines two sumptuous decorating ideas: that of tufting, which is achieved when upholsterers thread through layers of fabric and secure the ends of the thread with a knot or button, and velvet, which is one of the richest fabrics used throughout history.

I passed by the Knoll store this morning and saw a Saarinen Executive Chair upholstered in a rich, wintry tweed sitting in the window. Then, I got my computer up and running and saw this smart J. Crew Wool Tweed Oona Coat ($550).

Home is where the wild things are — just ask Urban Outfitters, which recently debuted a line of home accessories based on the movie coming out Oct. 16. I've found even more inspiration looking through the stills from director Spike Jonze's interpretation of the classic children's book.

New York Fashion Week was full of many beautiful, elegant, and inspiring looks. But I must say that the designers participating in Madrid Cibeles Fashion Week have really displayed out-of-the-box thinking and debuted some wild and funky fashions. In particular, I'm blown away by Spanish designer Francis Montesinos's Spring collection.
