The Design Glut Hookmaker ($30) from Supermarket reminds me a bit of the Half a Portion Mirror that 56 percent of you loved. As a place to hang and hold your small objects (keys, etc.), it serves a similar purpose, and also emerges only halfway from the wall. Clearly this is a contemporary design, so if you're a traditionalist I don't expect you to express any love for this. But I think this glazed wall tile could come in pretty handy in a modern kitchen, especially one with a door leading to your driveway (landing strip!). Just don't pour any hot coffee in there . . .

If you're bored with the cookie-cutter coat hooks lining your hall, then I have an excellent solution for you. The Sculptural Ceramic Figurative hook ($95) will make your guests look twice. I also think that it's a winning option to the overplayed hunting trophy trend of this past year. And besides: It's just darn cute, don't you think? Made by Etsy seller RyanTakaba, each hook is constructed from porcelain clay and glazed with a light, greenish-celadon glossy glaze to accentuate the porcelain. It can easily be hung with drywall or wood screws attached to a stud, thanks to the metal key holes that are mounted on the back of the hook.

Cool Idea: Vintage French Soap Hook

I just stumbled upon this Vintage French Soap Hook ($40) at Apartment Therapy's shop. It's a solid chrome bracket with a bar of soap screwed on, which spins as you use it. The price AT sells the hook for is kind of absurd, considering that it was originally designed for French public schools. But, it's clever and good-looking, so I won't wash my hands of it.

Love It or Hate It? Seletti HANG Wall Hook

In my house, it seems like there's always something that needs to be hung up even when the closets are jam-packed. So, I'll always welcome a wall hook, especially if it has taken design into consideration. I feel like this Seletti HANG Wall Hook, made of stainless steel, may be too industrial looking for my home, though. It could work in an office or even a garage. What do you think?

I thought I'd continue the talk of warm colors with one color that's very trendy these days: orange. I see orange paired often with deep grays in spare, contemporary spaces. But it looks equally smart in traditional rooms, paired with turquoise or navy. A room painted in orange, or even a chair upholstered in orange, probably wouldn't be my thing. But I do like orange used in accents, especially if the color is continued throughout the room. So I thought I'd round a few up. From clocks and candles to wall hooks and letter trays, orange comes in all shapes, forms, and functions.

Casa Quickie: Alterna-Hooks For Curtains

Take a cue from the Ace Hotel in Palm Springs when you're tying back your curtains. Use an inexpensive industrial hook instead of curtain ties. I love the gleaming, red contrast that this one has against the natural canvas curtains. Check at your local hardware store to get your own industrial hooks.
