Artist Andrew Phares doesn't leave his creativity in the studio. On the contrary: His eye for design, unique antiques, and tongue-in-cheek vintage signage and toys is evident throughout his Bay Area home. Midday Muse: Old School in Shades of Green

This 1920s-era home, which was just on the American Institute of Architects' San Francisco Chapter Home Tour was renovated using green principles. While I love modern homes built with green design principles, I'm even more fond of these gorgeous old gems.

Casa Verde: Weekend Green Home Tours in LA

I wanted to give a heads-up to any Casa readers in Los Angeles about a series of events coming up in the next three weekends. These events, which will showcase the newest in green building, will take place at project7ten in Venice.

A joint project between builder Tom Schey and environmentalist Kelly Meyer, the recently completed LEED Platinum-certified project7ten is one of the most environmentally friendly homes in California. It will open its doors for three weekends in October to educate and raise awareness about simple everyday choices and green products that can create a healthier environment.

These open houses cost $20, and sales from the tickets will benefit Healthy Child Healthy World, the nation’s leading non-profit in the area of children’s environmental health. Each weekend, a random drawing will award winners thousands of dollars in eco-friendly prizes, including Shaklee Get Clean Starter Kits ($150 value), a Naturpedic Organic Baby Mattress ($300 value), Magic Bullett sets ($60 value), or Going Green Consultations ($500 value).

Coveted Crib: Pink Simplicity in Tribeca

In this 700-square-foot Tribeca loft designed by Ghislaine Viñas, precision and simplicity rule the roost, along with one particular: pink. The owner, a life-long pink enthusiast, wanted to give her family home some personality with her beloved bright pink and magenta hues. So the focus of the living room is this bright '70s-style corner sectional, and white and light oak give the space lightness and a neutral background to tame the vibrancy of the furnishings. The kitchen boasts a fuschia backsplash and counter stools, which make the industrial concrete countertops and steel elements seem more playful. When you move into the bedrooms, bathrooms, and children's playroom, the color palette changes, with neutral background tones still dominating but blues and greens introduced as focal points. Home Library: Majestic Metropolitan Living

Just a week after the fold of Metropolitan Home, I've got my hands on another city-centric design volume: Sue Hostetler's new book Majestic Metropolitan Living: Visionary Homes in the Heart of Cities. The shelter and design editor for magazines like Gotham, Hamptons, and LA Confidential, and the host of Plum Homes With Sue Hostetler on Plum TV (which "targets the most active, influential, and educated audience in the world"), Hostetler has tapped her cronies for tours of their unique and luxe urban dwellings.

The American dream of retiring to the pool and tennis courts in your countryside home is squashed by this book, which showcases a range of sprawling, real-life city homes. Each has an original sense of style, a warmth that defies traditional conceptions of "cold urban modernism," spectacular views, and in several cases, an outdoor space complete with a pool or lush garden. Many of the homes were created, not surprisingly, by converting former warehouses or other nonresidential buildings, or combining apartments.

On the Market: Sleep in Edward Cullen's Bedroom

This is not the same house used in Twilight. That house was designed by architect Jeff Kovel of Skylab Architecture. For New Moon, the filming was moved to Vancouver, BC, and the Erickson-designed house, which was also featured in the John Cusack film Martian Child, became the Cullen home for the second film in the Twilight saga.

Coveted Crib: Kate Walsh's Lovely LA Home

Kate Walsh's 1920s Spanish-style Los Angeles home is featured in this month's issue of InStyle, and I'm blown away by how glamorously laid-back it is. While elements like a Steinway grand piano, lush fur throws, and a 1960s Lucite console offer that prim Old Hollywood look you see in many celebrity homes, there is something really layered and livable about it that I found unusual. Turns out, Walsh eschewed her usual interior designer route and hired the set decorator of Private Practice, Melissa Levander, to put the space together. Come take the tour!

Coveted Crib: Slaughterhouse Fine

A former slaughterhouse in Ulricehamn, Sweden, was transformed into this fabulous coveted crib. Outfitted with furniture and accessories from around the world, the space feels much more metropolitan than you'd expect from a rural Swedish home. An extensive collection of artwork is mixed with both vintage and modern furniture. Antique Corinthian columns mingle with an Arne Jacobsen Swan chair, worn wood surfaces with plush velvet, and IKEA with Philippe Starck, creating endless serendipitous juxtapositions.
