The farmers market last night was full of Fall squashes, gourds, and pumpkins. I haven't bought a pumpkin for my doorstep yet, but it's on my to-do list. Is there one on your stoop?

Roundup: Santa and His Elves

It may be too late to revamp this year's holiday decor, but that isn't stopping me from scoping out modern Santa and elven accents to add to my arsenal. If you celebrate Christmas, don't think for a second that the traditional Clausian iconography has to be tacky.

These North Pole-themed home wares, like the CB2 Elf Candleholders ($5.95) I've been eyeing, are so chic, you could almost leave them out year-round. But instead, I plan to stock up after the holiday to start building next year's new look.

Midday Muse: Subtle Holiday Decorating

San Francisco blogger and home decorating all-star Victoria recently offered some mellow holiday decorating ideas, including this pretty rose and candle vignette.

What I love about her holiday style is that it's gorgeously done and unmistakably festive, yet doesn't rely on overdone elements for her decorating ideas. While my holiday style tends to involve more traditional Winter holiday elements (think: evergreen boughs, mistletoe), I also appreciate her more subtle holiday style. What do you do in your house?

Do You Hang Mistletoe?

While mistletoe may be a parasitic plant (it lives in the branches of trees or shrubs), I can't hold that against it. In fact, I'll take any excuse to kiss my sweetie, and hanging mistletoe is as good a reason as any.

Cool Idea: From Bridal Bouquet to Holiday Decoration

Since I'm asking you to post your holiday decorations for my Su Casa Challenge, I figured it was only fair for me to post a photo of a little of my holiday decorating.

This Summer, I had all of my bridesmaids wrap their bouquets in vintage doilies (which you can see in this photo, in my sister's bouquet) for my wedding. We also hung starched doilies from the trees at the ceremony site. Afterward, I saved the doilies because I knew I'd want to reuse them in some way; I just wasn't sure quite how I'd do it.

Since doilies look so much like snowflakes, adapting them was easy! I re-starched the doilies, attached them to satin ribbons, and then hung them from an overhead fixture that I'd festooned with clippings from our Christmas tree. Simple, sweet, and meaningful!

Su Casa: Decorating For the Holidays

Su Casa member Caffeepants responded to my Su Casa Challenge and posted some pretty pictures from her holiday-decorated home. I love the sparkling orbs on her trees, and all of the twinkly lights on her deck are reminding me that I need to get some outdoor decorations on my porch as well.

Holidays are on my mind lately, and I love seeing all the creative ways others decorate their homes at this time of year. I'm always looking for inspiration to try new things in my own home. We each have our own traditions for the holidays and the seasons, and personalizing our homes is often a large part of those rituals. For example, TeamSugar member Peggasus decided to add some holiday cheer to this Marlin (which she caught herself - it took her two hours to reel it in) by topping its fin with a Santa hat.
