Invisible Floating Shelves ($13.95) have become a popular purchase among modern design enthusiasts for the minimalism they offer. While I do like how the shelf itself is concealed, sometimes having the visual weight of wood is an easy way to create a focal point. So I like how Su Casa member SoCalSugar used an old frame that she picked up at the Rose Bowl flea market to give her books some body.

After moving into an old farmhouse a few months ago, Su Casa member ndchristine and her husband have slowly been updating the place, as time and money allows. I love how she has hung the frames behind her television. The organic arrangement works with the low placement of the TV, rather than fighting it — as a single, large frame or painting hung above it would.

It's a dream to curate a personal collection of original art, but it's not always in the budget. Sometimes, though, just the frame you use to hang something or the way it's hung is visually intriguing enough that what's behind the glass is of little consequence. Artists, designers, and art directors Jonathan and Annie Zawada made the most of a simple drawing by hanging it diagonally in their Sydney home, photographed by Todd Selby.

Set inside a clear frame, a vast collection of small household items becomes a captivating art piece. Can you tell me what these small items are? I'll give you a hint: they help to light up an expensive vice.

I think the beautiful styling of these photographs taken by Trine Thorsen makes this use of empty frames as decor work. But, I'm not sure how great they'd look if the mantel weren't arranged just so, and the dining table weren't unusually dressed with vases and a lamp. I think it might look the homeowner hadn't finished a framing project.

We've all got walls and stuff to display and store, so who can argue with a wall shelf? Especially a beautiful one that's on sale. The Brocade Home Ruffle Frame Shelf ($199, reduced from $299) is my kind of shelf.

My grandmother was the ultimate creative, painfully chic and actually an interior designer herself. So, it didn't come as a surprise when she revamped this French door in her living room (which leads to a rarely used closet), using it to frame black-and-white family photos. She had mattes made to border each photo, or each arrangement of photos, and placed them behind the glass door panes.

As part of his university project to give a household brand a new marketing direction, Michael Ciancio chose to rebrand Lego, targeting hip, young adults instead of children. He created a catalog featuring instructions on how to customize Lego blocks to make useful products like iPod cases, picture frames, and coffee mugs. I'm keen on his Lego frame.

Some might say you have an exaggerated sense of self-worth to frame a photo of yourself with an intricately cut flower pattern, but I'd just say you're fabulous. Perhaps the design of the Urban Outfitters Flowers Cut Out Metal Frame ($9.99) is a tad too feminine for most with its curvy cutouts and florals, but its sleek black enameled metal frame gives it rockstar edge. And there's nothing indulgent about its price.

In my post about the new Hygge & West shop, TeamSugar member KateDavis commented, saying that the illustrated frames in the shop's graphic reminded her of one she'd drawn herself as part of a gag on her husband. Of course, I told her I'd love to see her frame, and she posted a photo to the Su Casa group. While her husband was at work, KateDavis hung one of her husband's paintings on their wall and drew an ornate frame around it with a Sharpie.
