Steal of the Day: CB2 Stage Floor Lamp

I'm looking to add a little height to my living room and I'm on a white kick, so the CB2 Stage Floor Lamp ($99.95, reduced from $149) might just be the thing. It puts a cartoonish spin on the traditional stage light, making it a great conversation piece. The lamp is a bit tongue-in-cheek, which I love; people should be more light-hearted about their furnishings. I'm also pretty keen on the price: it's hard to find a floor lamp with flair for anywhere near $100. What do you think?

I had a hunch about where I might be able to find this lamp, and lucky you, I was right. The lamp in Rachel's room is the Purple Bijoux Floor Lamp ($80) from Lamps Plus. The store also sells a matching Table Lamp ($50) and Chandelier ($200), if those work better for your niece.

Love It or Hate It? Frisa Floor Lamp

German industrial designer Anika Engelbrecht designed this tress-like floor lamp, Frisa (inquire for price), which can be customized with pigtails, braids, and bangs, like a full head of hair. It certainly makes me chuckle, but I can't say I'd actually put it in my home. I'm thinking it might be fun to use in an eclectic, modern hair salon. What do you think?

. . . would you buy this 1950s Jacques Adnet Clover Lamp ($6,500)? While I can't picture myself spending over even a grand on a floor lamp, I think this enameled wrought iron piece, with its stitched leather handle and adorable clover-shape base, is as good a splurge as any. It's stunning and completely unique. Have you ever seen a shade like that?

Found It! Olivia Palermo's Floor Lamp

I recently wrote a Found It! about the pillows in the living room of New York socialite and The City star, Olivia Palermo. While I wouldn't call myself a fan of this girl, I do dig her polished and muted digs. I knew I'd seen the Greek key-esque floor lamp in the corner of her room somewhere, but I couldn't remember where. It just struck me that it's so obvious: her lamp is from the shop of a famous interior designer, who recently designed a dream house for a pop icon. To find out where it's from, read more.

The lamp is the Parker Floor Lamp ($550) by Jonathan Adler. Adler recently designed the Barbie Malibu Dream House; Palermo's a little bit of a wannabe Barbie, don't you think?

Desire/Acquire: Wooden Tripod Floor Lamp

The Ralph Lauren Architect Floor Lamp ($600) is a chic, classic, and polished design that's ideal for the traditional homes of those cable-knit-sweater-wearing women. I find it très élégant with its rich red mahogany, and I love how it references the three-legged design of a surveyor's tripod. And, while I'm sure it's a very sturdy and high quality, I couldn't bring myself to spend 600 smackers on a floor lamp that's not a statement piece (this guy's more of a filler). The Wisteria Wooden Tripod Floor Lamp ($249) will cost you less than half the price of the former lamp, and it's equally chic. It's natural teak wood base gives it more of a casual vibe than the mahogany, but I tend to see few really formal homes these days, anyway. This lamp adjusts from a 35.5-inch height to a 58-inch height so it can alternate between a table and floor lamp. Beat that, Ralph Lauren!

Found It! Orange Floor Lamp

If you caught my recent Get the Look on this room, you may have been charmed by the orange floor lamp standing in the corner. Orange can be a very bold color, especially in a white room, but here it just adds a touch of subtle and fresh color. And since it picks up some of the tones in the artwork and the rug, it brings everything in the room together. I knew I'd seen this lamp before but couldn't remember where at the time of my post. The lamp was designed in 1950 by a French company by the name of Jieldé, and was inspired by railway lights. Its industrial, flexible, and elegant qualities make it a timeless piece, and it can bend in any direction, making it quite versatile. A few styles of the lamp are available, including a table, floor, and ceiling lamps, but the one shown is known as the Signal lamp. It's available at Kárikter in the US for $1,200.

Nice and New: Pottery Barn Verona Floor Lamp

Once, when spying the delicate silk lining inside an evening clutch, I thought of something a friend had said: The only true luxury is hidden luxury. The Bauhaus Arc Floor Lamp ($199) sells for a fraction of the price of the Twiggy, and still looks gorgeous. With an iron base pedestal and aluminum shade, this cool, modern lamp is available in either olivine or stark white. I also love that it turns on and off with a foot switch. Are you a fan?

Crave Worthy: Orten'zia Large Floor Lamp

Bruno Rainaldi must have taken a note from the Talking Heads' catchphrase "This ain't no disco" when designing the Orten'zia Large Floor Lamp ($4,628). The luminary certainly has a disco ball aura to it, but its nickel-plated petals give it a unique flair that's light years away from the glowing dance floor of the Saturday Night Fever set. Unfortunately, with that price tag, it's also astronomically distant from my living room. Perhaps someone like Jade Jagger could set it on the glossy floors of her swank London pad, though.
