I talk often about various forms of recycling and upcycling, and I've seen plenty of ingenious ideas for reusing what might seem useless. But sometimes you needn't change a thing about a household item to give it a new purpose. Sometimes all it takes is a little dirt.

In nearly every home, a junk drawer is growing, luring refugee "stuff" to find solace there. It's unavoidable really; there are always some odds and ends with no place to go, and the junk drawer is the only haven for them. The trick is clear that junk drawer out frequently, and organize what's left into categories and containers.

Aging isn't an easy thing to do. For antiques, the phrase "things get better with age" is nearly always true when it comes to aesthetics and market value. But sometimes they do need a little love to get their groove back.

The key to a stylish home office is finding furniture that doesn't look too severe. The only thing severe about this West Elm Wide Two-Drawer File Cabinet (below left) is that it's severely stylish and severely on sale: $200, reduced from $430. It comes in darker chocolate finish or lighter acorn, and I love the way the "handles" at the top and bottom of the drawers look like a design element.

With the approach of Spring, I'm rethinking ways to add some fresh accents to my home without spending a lot of money. One project that I've been interested in tackling is refreshing my dresser. I also have some old drawers left over from a trashed dresser that wasn't worth saving, and I need something to do with them as well.

I spotted this photo on AT:SF, and I think it's such a clever, cute idea. AT:SF recommends using alphabet blocks as drawer pulls in a child's room, though I think it would be fun to spell out a cheeky word or phrase on an adult's dresser, too.

As I've mentioned in the past, I'm a huge fan of the new CBS series The Good Wife. In particular, I adore Alicia Florrick's (Julianna Margulies) apartment. With classic styling and great use of color, it's definitely a look I'm currently coveting.
