For most of us, downsizing means foregoing an addition on a home, or selling a vacation home, especially in this uncertain real estate market. If your last name is Spelling, though, downsizing has a slightly different meaning.
As reported in the LA Times, Candy Spelling, widow of Aaron Spelling, has traded in her Holmby Hills home — the largest house in the entire county of Los Angeles with 123(!) rooms and measuring in at 56,500 square feet— for her new $47 million condo, which spans the top two floors of LA's Century City high rise, which is still under construction.

As I've mentioned in the past, I'm a huge fan of the new CBS series The Good Wife. In particular, I adore Alicia Florrick's (Julianna Margulies) apartment. With classic styling and great use of color, it's definitely a look I'm currently coveting.

It's not only studio dwellers that encounter these issues, though.

Sometimes, moving into a smaller space can make your style shine more. I'm a huge fan of eco-minded furniture design shop The Joinery, which is located in Portland, OR. The Joinery handcrafts high-end furniture using traditional woodworking techniques in a variety of styles, including modern, shaker, mission, and arts and crafts styles, as well as custom pieces.
Taking a cue from the needs of its customers, who are often downsizing to smaller urban spaces, The Joinery has recently developed its Modern line.
