Nice and New: Designers Guild Cushions

London-based luxury fabric and wall-covering company Designers Guild is hands down one of my favorite retailers of home décor of all time. If you're in the market for indulgent, feminine, colorful, and sophisticated textiles, DG is the answer. I'm always particularly won over by the retailer's stunning collection of throw pillows ("cushions"), made from luxurious cut velvets and sumptuous silks, with delicate and unique embroideries. The latest cushion additions feature modern stripes, exotic florals, and updated paisleys in a perfect, macaron-esque palette. I'd love to own them all, but here are a few of my favorites, from top left: Whitewell Celadon ($140), Delancey Lime ($100), Bourton Peony ($140), Margot Rose ($250), Bourton Celadon ($140), and Madison Peony ($100). Love It or Hate It? West Elm Sheepskin Pouf

You know how I love poufs. They're cozy and work as seating, foot rests, and even side tables. I also can handle sheepskin in small measure such as a throw or petite accent rug. But, I'm not sure about this Sheepskin Pouf ($349) concoction. What do you say? Yea or nay?

Do You Have Floor Cushions?

Sometimes all you need to complete a small sitting room or outdoor space is a few floor cushions, a cozy throw, and a tea table. But floor cushions also make great spare seating when you've got extra guests in the house, and they're ideal for picnics as rooftop furniture. Do you have any?

Cool Idea: Cheeky Toile

I adore toile but sometimes feel as if it needs an infusion of humor. Enter Historically Inaccurate Decorative Arts, a textile company intent on tickling toile's funny bone. With a few carefully placed stitches, a pastoral scene goes from domestic to out of this world.
A creatively embellished toile cushion will cost you $184, with the floral-printed cushions running around $50 less. The company also makes adorable rag bunny cushions, if that's more your style. Of course, you could always buy a yard of toile at your local fabric shop and attempt some creative embellishments of your own. Tell me, do these designs make you giggle?

Love It or Hate It? Bovist Cushion

Made by Hella Jongerius, Bovist ($690) is a decorative floor cushion, stool, and ottoman all in one. It features a large number of taken-in strips on the side and a filling of small plastic balls, as well as large sections of embroidery on the cover.

Get the Look: Folksy Red Cushion Room

After reading my Decorating With Cozy Fall Throws slideshow, one reader wrote in saying, "I am in love with this room and want to know where everything is from, particularly the pillows and the artwork." You know me, I love to help you all "get the look," so here we go!

The success of this room is driven by the mix of pink and red textiles, including cushions, a throw, and a floormat. Those particular cushions are from Designers Guild but are no longer available. The artwork is from Pimpernel & Partners in London, but you can easily find similar artwork by searching "vintage floral paintings" on Etsy or eBay. Etsy Find: Modern Floor Cushion

I'm always looking for cute, versatile seating that can accommodate unexpected guests. The Modern Floor Cushion ($60) from Etsy seller Mookah is the perfect plus one at your next soiree. Handmade with a heavy-duty upholstery fabric, this floor cushion is composed of eight side panels with a matching top and bottom octagonal-shaped panel. It's two feet wide and 10 1/2 inches thick, so it can be easily tucked away when not needed. But why hide this cute little cushion away? I wouldn't stop at one; I'd grab three and stack them in a corner. After all, it's best to be prepared.

My buddy geeksugar posted a poll about this Google News Cushion ($120), and I'm curious to know what you guys think. Designed by Elodie Blanchard, the statement-making pillow is emblazoned with the top 10 Google News stories of 2006. (2003 and 2005 versions are also available.) The more I look at the limited-edition design, the more fascinating it is- though it feels slightly exploitative to have a pillow that reads "Hurricane Katrina" on my couch.

Since Summer is often a time when you're hosting a lot of houseguests, as well as throwing many parties, extra seating is always a necessity.
