Crave Worthy: Polka Dot Credenza

There's something so Serena van der Woodsen about this Polka Dot Credenza ($2,299); can't you just see it in her polka dot bedroom? I can certainly see it in mine! Thanks to an internal lighting system and frosted glass discs set in the dark beech wood frame, this credenza diffuses light beautifully, almost like a constellation. It's obviously designed for a modern home, but I think there's a lot of versatility in where you could use it . . . in the dining room to store linens, a living room as media storage, or a bedroom to stash clothes and personal items. I think it's stellar, don't you?

Crave Worthy: Jethro Macey Sideboard

If you told me the words lace, sideboard, white, floral, lacquer, and modern could exist all in one breath, I wouldn't believe you - and I'd likely chastise you for being a tease. But impressively, those adjectives do exist all together . . . in the Jethro Macey Sideboard ($8,000 and up). The white sideboard has a lacquered surface and its doors shine with a textured rose pattern that emulates antique lace. I love how the masculine quality of its clean lines and mid-century-style legs are juxtaposed with the femininity of the rose pattern. It's subtly stunning, and would make killer storage for a modern bedroom, living room, or dining room. Crave Worthy: Modern Cellar Skylight Wine Credenza

I'm a big fan of any piece of furniture that serves my drinking habit . . . and I don't mean a Tower of Power. I'm speaking more along the lines of a bar cart, but something about them sort of screams bachelor pad to me. So, when I came across a handsome credenza that doubled discreetly as a wine rack, I really had a reason to pop the cork. The Modern Cellar Skylight Wine Credenza (inquire for price) stores wine, stemware, plateware, and serving accessories: nearly all the necessities for a sophisticated dinner party (add friends and food, and blend). Hand rubbed with a walnut oil finish, made of one-pieced sides and top, it's truly beautiful, and will take on a wonderful patina as it ages. And, its sliver of glass on the top reveals your beloved wine collection. Just make sure to store your two buck Chuck on its lower level . . .

Love It or Hate It? Boca do Lobo Forest Sideboard

The body and base of this sideboard is made of wood and covered with a branch-like cut-out that covers the whole body of the metallic (not mirrored) piece, which was finished with a lacquer for high gloss shine. According to the product description of this limited edition piece, the structure "transports the external nature to the interior" in a way that is "imposing and functional." No price was listed. What do you think?

A sideboard is flat-topped dining room case piece with cupboards and drawers that is designed to store dishes, glass, silverware, and table linens, and is placed against the wall. It's okay to confuse sideboards with buffets and credenzas; their use has the same, or a very similar intent.

Before and After: A Traditional Swedish Clock Gets an Update

Su Casa member dezignerwannabe recently decided to update her traditional Swedish Mora clock. In case you didn't know, these Scandinavian floor clocks were created near the town of Mora, Sweden, around 1750, after bad farming seasons forced the Mora farmers to find another way to earn income. Many of the clocks were decorated with painted faces, but now, hardly any of the original artwork remains on the clocks, and most have been painted over with inferior, rosemaling-type designs.

Since dezignerwannabe wanted to update the look and color of her traditional clock, she decided to go for it, and, as she wrote in the title of her post, "I hope I don't regret it but after so many years it needed an update."

I, for one, can't see how dezignerwannabe would have any regrets over this update. The teal-and-gold paint combination with rosemaling designs was really holding this piece back, and while it stood out, it didn't do so in a positive manner. The real beauty in this piece is its gorgeous shape, and the simple, white paint update that dezignerwannabe gave it allows its beautiful curves to really stand out.

Roundup: Curvy, White Table Lamps

Every time I watch Modern Family, I always pay attention to the decor choices used throughout the three families' homes. It's no big surprise that Cameron and Mitchell's home is my favorite, since I featured it the other week.

I really love this curvy, white table lamp that they've placed on the credenza, which you can spot in the right of this photo. The feminine lines and alabaster surface manage to blend in perfectly with the decor, yet also stand out at the same time.

This Jonathan Adler Table Lamp in Capri White (on sale for $225) is a close match to Cameron and Mitchell's lamp. I love its lustrous shade and curvy glass base. Unlike the lamp in the show, Adler's lamp has a polished nickel base, which adds contrast.

Cool Idea: Gilt-y as Charged

Check out the luxe look of the interior of this credenza and the table lamp atop it, thanks to their gilded interiors. I love the idea of a secret, gold lining to a furniture or accent in your home. It lends an unexpected, glam touch. The Ikea Trollsta Sideboard ($349) seems like an obvious choice for a gilded interior; don't you think? You can add a touch of gold to your furniture with gold paint or gilt cream. Have you done this to any furniture at your house?
