Crate & Barrel's Fall 2011 catalog has arrived, and it's oozing with gorgeousness! The brand seems to have given itself a major styling overhaul, much like West Elm did last year. The staged interiors feel much more lived in and less like a showroom with very layered designs and accessories that seem collected. Take a peek at some of my favorite looks from the new catalog!

It doesn't get more classic, easy, or affordable than this! Check out Crate and Barrel's new "French Kitchen Island." This piece is a very reasonable solution to either upgrade a "Builder Basic"* island or have a brand new island! I'm a sucker for open storage and anything Carrara Marble. I also adore the towel bars on each side.

And, if you don't have room for an island (or the one you have is great already), consider the table. Would look great in a breakfast room or a Kitchen/Dining combo area (just don't use both of them together - it'll look too "matchy-matchy").

* "Builder Basic" is what I refer to as the standard finishes a builder may put into a home with no other design input from the client, designer or architect. Typically it follows convention and usually saves the builder money. In this case, it's an island created using the same cabinetry as the cabinets lining the walls in the kitchen, typically very narrow and not in proportion to the space available for an island.

Steal of the Day: Crate & Barrel Sloane Leaning Desk

Back in the days of my clunky Macintosh 128K, a light and slender desk like the Crate & Barrel Sloane Leaning Desk ($99, reduced from $199) would simply not fly. But, seeing as so many of us are equipped with oh-so petite MacBooks these days, it's an ideal desk for a home office - especially if you live in a studio. Granted, with only two fixed shelves, it offers little in the way of storage. But, isn't that what our external hard drives are for? I'd also like to give C&B a pat on the back for the renewable solid bamboo and bamboo veneer construction of this design. What do you think?

Steal of the Day: Crate & Barrel Dash Lamp

I guess I must have monochrome living on my mind, but I'm really digging the Crate & Barrel Dash Lamp ($27.95). It's not shaped like a light bulb, covered in mirrors, or even ruby red. It's just simple, masculine, and understated. I love the way the ceramic base mimics the shape of the traditional shade, and it has a subtle embellishment almost like café barware. What do you think? For under $30, you've got to admit it's an unbelievable steal.

Three New Ways to Get Your Hands on Marimekko's Goods

Lovers of Marimekko have reason to cheer. In just a few short months, there will be three new, easier than ever ways to indulge in the Finnish company's fantastic textiles. Read on for the details!

Marimekko is opening 22 shop-in-shops in Crate and Barrel Stores in the US and Canada. Chicago, LA, San Francisco, and New York residents can enjoy shopping at the first four stores this Spring. New York's Soho Crate and Barrel also opened a Marimekko shop in October of last year.
Marimekko is opening a flagship store this Fall on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan. Just like its flagship Helsinki store, this shop will be designed by Japanese architectural firm IMA in collaboration with Marimekko's designers.
The company's goods will also be available internationally through revamped ecommerce sites. Look for the first online shop to open in the US by this Summer. (I'll share details, of course!)

Explaining the new stores and ecommerce sites, Marimekko President and CEO Mika Ihamuotila explained, "It is crucially important for us to be able to introduce our customers to the whole world of Marimekko in our own way. The new flagship store is also meant to support our online shop, which will be opened in the US this year, and our extensive cooperation with Crate and Barrel."

A Branch of Birch and Frames

I love this idea from Crate and Barrel to hang pictures with ribbons from a natural branch of birch. And the branch itself is hanging from curtain tiebacks. It's a stunning but casual idea and easy to do at home, too - no major tools required!
