Summer Style: Luscious Little Cottage

When it comes to pretty in pink, the Luscious Little Cottage on Tybee Island, GA, has it covered. This 1920s-era home was bought from its original owners by interior designer Jane Coslick, who wanted to preserve the cottage's feel and look.Just steps from Tybee beach, the one-room cottage has room to sleep three, while an outbuilding nicknamed The Roost accommodates an additional two visitors. The Roost was actually fashioned from a restored elevated ticket booth, and features twin beds crafted from Tybee driftwood. Talk about Summer style!

Coveted Crib: An Unconventional French Cottage

From the exterior, Gary and Samantha Peterson's Chamonix cottage, which was featured in Marie Claire Maison, is resolutely a traditional Alpine house. But push open its front door, and you'll be confronted with cheerfully decorated interiors bursting with acid colors, massively proportioned spaces, and walls dressed in white, throwing you into a ski vacation universe turned upside down. Despite the fact that all conventions have been thrown to the wind, and your average cottage kitsch is notably missing, the Petersons' cottage is a welcoming mountain escape, and certainly what I'd call a coveted crib. Casa Craving Challenge: Seaside Cottage Chic

Welcome to our first Casa Craving Challenge! Every Thursday on CasaSugar, I'll give you a decorating theme - an inspiring photograph, a hot trend, or a specific room - and I'll ask you to go Casa Craving for items that fit the theme. In case you missed it, here's a post explaining what a Casa Craving is and how to create one.

Since we're in the midst of Summer, I'm devoting this week's Casa Craving challenge to Seaside Cottage Chic. Beach-inspired decor is tough: Too many pastels and seashells, and your room look like a 1980s Florida condo. So I'm thinking more along the lines of this seaside cottage featured in the August 2007 of Better Homes and Gardens. I love how the blue-and-white palette and driftwood accents evoke the beach without a bit of tackiness.

Casa Craving Recap: Seaside Cottage Chic

Well, I think it's safe to say that our first Casa Craving Challenge was a major success. On Thursday, I asked you guys to go Casa Craving for a Seaside Cottage Chic look - inspired by the photo below - that doesn't involve too many pastels or seashells. I was really impressed by the results and the way each of you interpreted the challenge differently.

Crave Worthy: Cottage and Bungalow Moroccan Side Table

I love the gold nail heads and baby-blue color of this Cottage and Bungalow Moroccan Side Table ($689). It would be a perfect little cocktail table between two arm chairs, and it might even work as a stool. It's certainly fit for a beach bungalow, but I don't see why it wouldn't work in the city, too. It also really resembles the West Elm Parsons Cube Side Table ($159). I'm dismayed though, that it's made with MDF. You'd think for nearly 700 smackers, they could scrounge up some authentic wood. What do you think? Do you crave it?

Before and After: Cottage Kitchen

Su Casa group member Rvarunnergal recently remodeled the kitchen of her 1940s Cape Cod home (as well as her bathroom). This photo shows what the room looked like when she purchased her home, and she says since then they've updated everything except the kitchen cabinets, which were pretty classic to begin with. Their newest addition is a backsplash made of recycled glass.
She says, "My absolute favorite part of this kitchen is the cork floors. Great on the feet!"
