Inspired: Space Invaders

On a recent trip, I was delighted to pass through Terminal 3 at the San Francisco Airport, where the exhibit Out of This World! The 20th-Century Space Invasion of American Pop Culture showcased sci-fi awesomeness, including comic books, toys, and other early 20th-century artifacts. If you're in the San Francisco Airport in the next month and a half, head down to Terminal 3's North Connect Gallery to check it out for yourself.

Since my shower curtain is neither in the best shape nor very visually appealing, for last week's Casa Craving Challenge, I asked you to hunt down and bookmark some styling shower curtains. I told you they could be comic-book inspired or covered in moss roses, made of plastic, or made of cotton, so long as they were styling! Casa Craving Challenge: Styling Shower Curtains

As part of my Spring cleaning routine, I've been casting a critical eye on the shower curtain. It's not in the best of shape, and it's just not very visually interesting either. I think it might be time for a change.

In light of this, for this Casa Craving Challenge, I want you to hunt down and bookmark the most styling shower curtains you can find. They can be comic-book inspired or covered in moss roses, made of plastic, or made of cotton. Just make sure they're styling! Show me all of your fab finds by creating Casa Cravings and tagging them with the phrase styling shower curtains. I'll feature the results next Wednesday, April 1. Crave Worthy: Personalized Nesting Dolls

I don't quite crave these Personalized Nesting Dolls ($1200 for five) for myself (that'd be lame), but they'd make a comical gift for a particular party of five that I know. Sweaters are so overrated, right? Illustrator Trisha Krauss will make a custom set of these Russian Matryoska nesting dolls for you and your family, or your friends. Just send in a full-length picture of everyone in the clan, and she will produce sketches for your approval and then transfer the images onto the wooden dolls. These Matryoshka dollies, hand painted in acrylic on wood, certainly are trendy, but they'll be a cherished gag for years to come.

Deck the Haus: Massimo Giacon and Alessi Nativity

Growing up, my family had a nativity set with a thatched roof and wooden sides. It was as true-to-life as any could be. While I was not particularly religious, I enjoyed moving the pieces around and imagining how the birth of Jesus Christ really went down. Although it contains an ox, donkey, Joseph, Mary, and the baby Jesus, this Massimo Giacon and Alessi Nativity set ($105) is a clear departure from my traditional nativity set. The porcelain manger looks more like a bubble chair than a manger. The figurines, in full–Massimo Giacon style, are reminiscent of Italian comic-strip characters. I suppose it's kind of funny though. The ox and donkey don't have
bodies . . .
