Desire/Acquire: Rubie Green Tillinghast Fabric

Don't get me wrong: I absolutely adore Rubie Green textiles. But the label's stylish and eco-conscious fabrics are not exactly wallet-conscious. This cheerful, Chippendale-esque Tillinghast fabric goes for $90 a yard. It's true, there are fabrics much more expensive. But this price tag adds up when you're ordering drapes for every window in your living room, or covering the whole canvas of a chair, and then you pay your upholsterer. Luckily, I know one fabric with a similar sunny yellow trellis pattern to save you some dimes. Want to see it?

These chairs, from a New York residence designed by Jonathan Adler, may look like bamboo, but you can rest assured that they're made out of wood.

Bamboo-look furniture, accents, and chandeliers have been popular for more than two centuries of interior design. Steal of the Day: Ballard Designs Macau Bench

If you're a fan of the Chinese Chippendale style, you'll probably think the Ballard Designs Macau Bench ($279, reduced from $399) is worthy of cheering about. Made of rattan in rubbed black or natural tortoise with cotton twill, the bench is casual yet sophisticated. It's the perfect way to seat a couple of extra guests in a small studio or offer up a resting place in a narrow hallway or petite foyer. Buy two and frame them around a Moroccan tea table for a little Eastern flair on your screened-in porch, or place one at the foot of your bed for some Mr. Rogers-style shoe-tying. Love it? Like it?

Before and After: Eddie Ross's New Orleans Showroom

Eddie Ross is at it again. Last month, he headed down to the New Orleans Home and Garden Show, where he was asked to design a room showcasing products from participating vendors and stores around town. He started with this lavender wall color to set a soft tone to the space. Then, he added an antique mantel from a local shop, a Swedish Secretary ($7,500), an antique zinc pedestal dining table from Perch, and some sleek, black Chippendale chairs. He then accessorized with some classic antique glass and white ceramic dinnerware. The result is supremely elegant and quite impressive, considering the quick turnaround. Before and After: A Stylish Secretary

I just came across interior designer Eddie Ross's makeover of a beautiful secretary he found at a New Jersey consignment shop, and I couldn't help but share it with you. The Chippendale style of the desk with its graphic grille and shapely top facade is very elegant, but the reddish mahogany veneer was very dated. So, Ross decided to make it over with a fresh coat of his favorite paint, Farrow & Ball's All White, and a mirror fit for behind the grille. To see the transformation, read more.

Home Away From Home: Chandelier Creative

Chandelier Creative is a three-year-old, full-service creative agency based in New York City with a focus on fashion, beauty, retail, travel, and luxury lifestyle brands. Among Chandelier's clients are Coca Cola, Four Seasons, Parfums Givenchy, Landmark Mandarin Oriental, Old Navy, Nanette Lepore, and W Hotels. Though the agency's client list is certainly an impressive one, you know me: I find myself more taken with the interior design of its SoHo penthouse, designed by agency owner, Richard Christiansen. Much like its work, Chandelier's space is slick, colorful, and imaginative and in every sense far from what the word "office" conjures in even the most forward-thinking mind. Here, a black leather Chesterfield sofa with matching tufted Louis XIV chairs and a Saarinen table set on glossy white floors form a creative conference area. Soccer balls roll about to lighten the mood. A Chippendale chair at a turned wood dining table makes a desk space, and an overflowing book case with colorfully spined volumes infuses the space with life and language. Weird Furniture: England's Dreaming

Forgoing a shepherd's pie ottoman or a Wimbledon coffee table, London-based architecture and design practice Fat created England's Dreaming as a tribute to its native country in furniture form. The antique chaise is covered at one end by a mini English landscape, juxtaposing scales and references, prompting the lounger to "Lie back and think of England." I only wonder why Fat didn't choose a traditional English piece of furniture, such as something by Thomas Chippendale; we all know that the chaise lounge (longue) originated from the French.
