Love It or Hate It? Chartreuse Tufted Headboard

Chartreuse is one of those colors that people have a hard time feeling neutral about. This Chartreuse Tufted Headboard ($1,709) is built on a maple frame that's been covered in tufted, chartreuse suede. Part of me loves it, but I doubt that I could handle the color - or decorating around the color - for very long. What about you?

Inspired: Kate Hudson at Beverly Hills Burberry Opening

On Monday, Kate Hudson arrived at the grand re-opening of the Burberry Beverly Hills store looking as gorgeous as ever. But we all know Kate looks fab even when she's not all dolled up for an A-List event. What struck me about this photo wasn't Hudson's attire — the boxy Burberry dress isn't the most flattering — but the palette is awe-inspiring. I adore the chartreuse shade of this silk dress mixed with the black and gray floor decorations and the beige walls. It instantly triggered the thought of one of my favorite crave worthy items, the Rug Company Durbar Hall Rug ($1,795- 25,920). So, I was inspired to design a room around this gorgeous palette and rug. To see my finds and hear my design ideas, read more.

My vision is to use the Durbar Hall Rug as a base, and from there add elements in the phenomenal palette. I thought I'd design a bedroom around it, the focal point being a chartreuse tufted headboard. I created two sitting areas, and then added bedroom essentials like a dresser and a bookcase. Inspired: Christian Dior's Fall 2010 Juicy Hues

Flipping through photos from Christian Dior's 2010 Fall Couture show, I noticed a theme of bright, juicy hues. As FabSugar noted, innerwear (corsets, garters, etc.) also played a major role, but considering how unpopular this corset-inspired chandelier was, I don't see lingerie motifs succeeding in the interior design world. These tangerine, pop pink, and chartreuse colors, on the other hand, would be a fun addition to any home - modern or traditional.

The citrus-colored seat on this Colorful French Accent Chair ($349) from Wisteria, for instance, pops against its carved oak frame, jazzing up what I imagine is a conservative room. To see more juicy couture colors for your home, read more.

Get the Look: It Takes Two

I may have been mystified by the synchronized swimmers during the 2008 Olympics, but they're not the only proof of value in symmetry. By using symmetry as a starting-off point for decorating your interiors, you can create a strong visual theme that looks polished, but not necessarily stiff.

To get this look, you should start by centering your sofa on one wall, preferably in front of a window. Then, pair a set of bookcases and a set of chairs on either side. In front of your sofa, set a trio of modular side tables and an area rug beneath them. Set a pair of matching throw pillows on the sofa. You've now created your room's architectural focal point, so it's time to offset that with some accents. Stick with no more than four colors. Here, the palette includes chartreuse, gray, black, and white. Note that there are no patterns: add interest instead with texture.

Try a set of white faceted vases filled with tall flowers or greenery to make a bold statement. Then, fill in the space with a mix of decorative accents, such as vases, trays, and bowls, that share the same color palette. Steal of the Day: Signals Three Rose Vases

I would never call Signals a go-to retailer for home décor products, but every once in a while they sweep me off my feet with a great steal. This time, it's Signals Three Rose Vases ($32, reduced from $59), three vases adorned with rose blooms in cream, chartreuse, and mint. Not only is a set of three vases for 30 bucks an incredible deal, but the vases share a remarkable similarity with the Roost Porcelain Flower Vase ($68-$96), a design I've been fawning over for some time. Each leaf and petal on the vases is hand-shaped and applied, making them very delicate and feminine, but their fresh colors keep them contemporary. What do you think?

Before and After: a Pretty Patio Table

In the process of putting some pizzazz in her backyard, one woman found this old, iron demilune patio table peeling with black and white paint that had clearly seen better days. Crave Worthy: The Rug Company Durbar Hall Rug

It's no wonder I felt an instant attraction to The Rug Company Durbar Hall Rug ($1,795- $25,920); the chartreuse and charcoal flocked rug is designed by Designers Guild — a favorite luxury home furnishing brand of mine. Made of 100 knot, Tibetan wool and silk, it's a high-quality rug that would probably outlive me, if I could ever afford to make the splurge. Its flowing branches and botanicals are certainly feminine enough for a bedroom, but I'd love to see it in a formal dining room with a glossy credenza and a noir chandelier, tempered by a slightly rustic wood dining table. What do you think? Do you love it, or am I all alone on this one?

Etsy Find: Rae Dunn Little Bee Dish

Reeled into a great local sale a few weekends ago, I treated myself to a pair of small Rae Dunn dishes that read "EAT" and a larger one with a chartreuse border, perfect for serving up cheese and crackers for a party of two. They've since become a favorite possession of mine. So, I was ecstatic to come across Rae Dunn's pottery in Etsy. This Rae Dunn Little Bee Dish ($25) is also fit for a bit of Brillat-Savarin and apricot compote, but would dole out a bar of lavender soap in the bathroom equally well. If bees aren't your thing, perhaps a little chicken, pig, or crown dish or her "Home Sweet Home" plaque would be more your speed — they're all solid, handmade, and one of a kind.

The Card Shop: You Float My Boat Card

You can never go wrong with a well-designed gocco print card, tagged with a catch phrase or a classic pun. That's why the Paper Wren You Float My Boat Card ($3.50) is just my style. I'm loving the somewhat retro teal anchors and ships; they've got me mouthing "Ahoy There"! Plus, the chartreuse color of the hearts makes any love-dovey notions a notch less saccharine sweet. I also might add that I've always been keen on the folksy tone of "You float my boat." What do you think? Would you mind if this card sailed your way?
