IKEA 2010 Catalog Arrives

I look forward to the annual arrival of the IKEA catalog like a little girl does her wedding day. In other words, it's my big day. The IKEA 2010 catalog is finally online for all of you to virtually flip through until your paper copy arrives in the mail. As always, you'll be wooed by the fantastic styling and reasonable prices. There are definitely a lot of new things to love, but what should be noted is that many of your old favorites have reduced prices. Furthermore, you'll find classic IKEA products available in new colors and patterns. So, if you're coming back for more of your faves, you can expect more selection, and to pay less. Just a year ago, I spent a lot of time browsing through home catalogs, and loved to return home to find a new west elm catalog in my mailbox. These days, though, I'm much more likely to do my browsing online. How about you?

I recently showed you how to steal ideas from Anthropologie's catalog, and today I'm back with more impressive styling from Swedish design shop Mimou. A purveyor of bed and table linens, cushions, poufs, and wallpaper, I ache for Mimou's fantastic materials and gorgeous design. But since I have no plans to head to Scandinavia in the near future, and I'm too much of a cheapskate to pay international shipping fees, I figure I might as well use its catalog for a little inspiration. Nice and New: Ikea's 2009 Catalog Is Online

It's about that time again. Ikea's new 2009 catalog arrived in my mailbox last week and I spent a good 40 minutes gawking at all of the beautifully styled and photographed rooms, and now it's available for you to flip through online.
The big-box retailer may sell mostly flat-pack, assembly-required MDF furniture that's not the sturdiest I've ever owned, and they may charge an arm and a leg for shipping, but I will give it to Ikea for consistently emerging with eye-catching designs and photography styled to the nines. I'm at a point where I'm honestly trying only to bring home timeless, durable furniture that I can pass on to my kids one day, but when it comes to some accents, and textiles especially, Ikea never fails to win me over -
without breaking the bank. If I'd never seen their products in person, they could have fooled me: their new inventory is quite photogenic, appearing luxe, vivid, and perhaps most importantly, inspiring, on all 300-some pages.

Nice and New: Zara Home Fall/Winter Catalog

Wow, did anyone else know that the sleek Spanish clothing chain Zara had a home store? Thanks to Shak in Style for informing me of its existence, and to the fact that the new Zara Home catalog for Fall 2007/Winter 2008 is now online.

There don't appear to be any Zara Home stores in the States, but I'm really interested in this catalog for cold-weather inspiration. It's full of muted feminine grays paired with golden wood furniture, creating a sort of mod ski lodge vibe. There are also lots of starker black and white accents, as well as earthy, vaguely tribal textiles and some adorable stuff for kids' and babies' rooms. Fall Garden Inspiration: Seed Catalogs (and Sites)

Whether you grew a prolific vegetable patch last summer or are just gearing up to start your very first garden, now is the time to start planning. There are a ton of great seed catalogs out there that will help you to gain inspiration. Check out Seeds of Change,
Territorial Seed Company, or Abundant Life Seeds for organic seeds and garden supplies. I also love the Jung seed catalog-it's huge and packed full of gorgeous photos of veggies, fruits, herbs, and flowers.

If you're still not feeling inspired, take a look at Gayla's incredible rooftop garden, from the awesome garden site You Grow Girl. Gayla grew 14 tomato plants and 2 tomatillo plants on her Canadian rooftop, amongst all the other bounty. She's also the the founder of the You Grow Girl site and the author of You Grow Girl: The Groundbreaking Guide to Gardening. Impressive, indeed!
