Do You Have a Canopy Bed?

I'm in love with this photo styled by Lucy Berridge. Although the mattress doesn't look very comfortable, it really makes me want to have a canopy over my bed. It looks so dreamy, and especially gorgeous with those vaulted ceilings. Do you have one?

For the next round of this challenge, I'd like you to look at this Canopy Bed Attributed to Phyllis Morris ($15,000). It was built in the 1970s and has been painted a matte white. Now, this thing just screams "tacky" to me (unfortunately high price tags do not equal high style). So, my challenge to you is to class this bed up. How could you make it more elegant? Would you paint it? Get rid of the canopy? What type of linens would you dress it in? Tell me by commenting below!

Steal of the Day: Maison Campaign Bed

I've been eyeing the PBteen Maison Campaign Bed ($499-$799) for some time now, and I am happy to report that its price has been reduced significantly. I love how its feminine curves are balanced by hand-hammered solid iron, making it subtly elegant, rather than overly baroque. I'm also loving how those minimal, crisp white sheets draw attention to the graceful shape of the bed. PBteen notes that its canopy is open to let a chandelier hang down; how beautiful would that be? Gosh, if only I had higher ceilings.

Crave Worthy: Valois Canopy Bed

Spotted on AT:SF, the Niermann Weeks Valois Canopy Bed ($19,330) is pure luxury. Made of Venetian silver leaf with antiqued mirrored panels, it's more feminine boudoir than art deco design, and it's yet another reason to love mirrored furniture. Fit for a queen, for yours truly, or just anyone with 20 Gs to spare, it more than qualifies as Crave Worthy. I particularly love its icy gray-blue headboard; I wonder what material it's made of. Can't you see Princess Anne from Roman Holiday taking a snooze in this four-poster?

Crave Worthy: Creme Fresh Celeste Bed

Here's a modern update of those canopy beds that we dreamed about as little girls. The sleek and modern Creme Fresh Celeste Bed is a tent-like structure that serves as a cocoon for peaceful sleeping, and it also creates a sort of instant bedroom if you live in a loft. I have no idea how much it costs, but hey: Just because I'm all grown up doesn't mean I can't still dream of canopies.

Trend Alert: Light and Airy Canopy Beds

As a kid, I always fantasized about having a canopy bed, and ever since I spotted the Creme Fresh Celeste Bed, I've discovered that there are plenty of canopy beds for grown-ups too. But these dreamy canopies aren't the imposing four-posters of old. The big trend is in light and airy canopy beds made from sleek metal, slender wood, and sculpted wrought iron for a look that's both romantic and modern.

Do You Have a Slanted Roof?

Slanted roofs can be a terror when you're trying to decorate - don't even think about placing a tall hutch or a canopy bed against a slanted wall. That is, unless you have lofty ceilings. But on the outside, slanted roofs look so pretty! And certain types of architecture (Colonial) couldn't really even exist without slanted roofs. Tell me, do you have one? Have you encountered decorating problems because of it? Or does it just affect your attic?

Assisted Living: Exotic Indian Bedroom Ideas

"I just bought this bedding from Anthropologie to redecorate my room. I'm looking for an Indian exotic influenced flair without being too literal and I want to keep the color palette spicy and exotic.

I'm afraid if I choose one of the colors from the quilt, though, it will be a bit overpowering. I was also thinking of draping my canopy bed with saris or sari-like fabric. I need suggestions for the walls and furniture as well as any other ideas or input."

I love that bedding, annajeb. Since it's such a busy pattern, you might want to consider decorating with solid-colored fabrics if you decide to do a canopy. You should definitely work within the color palette established by the bedding, but stick to a solid color, or try a few solid colors that pick up the colors in the bedding.

For wall color, you could either keep it crisp and white, or use a more spicy color, as you indicated you were interested in doing. You might want to use an accent color for the wall behind the bed, and then paint the rest of the walls white.

As far as furniture, I can see darker, heavier wood working well for accent furniture. Look for mango wood or sheesham wood.
