Bostonians Would Give Up Sex Over Cell Phones

What does it say about the future of the human race when people would rather give up sex for a year than go without a cell phone for the same amount of time? I guess it means that technological communication is truly becoming more important than old-fashioned face-to-face interaction, even the type of face-to-face interaction that involves having sex. Come on, people! What good is a booty call without the booty? Is sexting really better than sex?

In a survey sponsored by none other than Samsung Mobile, 31 percent of adults in Boston said they would rather give up sex for a year than go without cell phones for a year. Apparently, relying on email, hard-to-find pay phones, and immobile landlines is much more burdensome than forgoing sex.

Considering that I know people who literally sleep with their BlackBerrys, I suppose I'm not really that shocked by these results.

Su Casa member Whittle03 and her boyfriend just moved to a new apartment near downtown Boston, and although her interior design work is not complete, things are looking great! A successful cohabitation is always a difficult balance when it comes to design, but Whittle03 sounds like she has it under control. She says, "Love is all about compromise. I hate leather, but my boyfriend loves it. So, I tried to find something more streamlined." Clearly, in this living room she's balanced a leather sofa, chair, and storage ottoman with other textiles on her cushions, throw, and silk lamps shades. Su Casa: A Beach Backyard to Die For

Su Casa member Scolls1583 recently snapped some photos at a friend's beach house party in Boston, and was so impressed she decided to share! She says that the host basically built his backyard area "from the ground up . . . put in a pool, built a bar, and decorated with great furniture." I'm certainly wowed by this home; it looks like the perfect place to entertain during an endless Summer. Aside from the obvious coveted Summer features (pool and beach), he's set up plenty of comfortable seating for all of his guests, what looks like a firepit or grill (in foreground), a volleyball net (not shown), and a beer pong table. Two Train Crashes: Two train crashes happened within hours of each other in Chicago and Boston yesterday. In Chicago, an elevated train derailed, leaving several people hurt. Then during rush hour in Boston two commuter trains collided and derailed killing the train driver and leaving several passengers injured. Investigators are still looking into the cause of the Boston crash. The 24-year-old driver died when one train slammed into the back of another.

US Economy Grows: The Commerce Department reported today that economic growth was measured at a 0.9 percent growth rate. The growth was a slightly better pace in the first quarter, though still weak and hindered by cautious consumers hurt by housing, credit and financial problems. The growth was an improvement from the government’s initial estimate for the first quarter as well as the economy’s performance in the final quarter of last year - both saw 0.6 percent growth rate.
Suicide Bomb Kills 16 in Iraq: A suicide bomber detonated today in a crowd of police recruits in northwestern Iraq, killing at least 16 and wounding 14 others. The blast occurred in Sinjar, the town that also saw a series of suicide truck bombings that killed an estimated 500 people. No responsibility has been claimed for the latest attack, though some suspect al-Qaida in Iraq, backing up Iraqi claims that insurgents have fled to remote areas to escape a US-Iraqi offensive currently in Mosul, about 74 miles east of Sinjar.

Is the Media Closing the Door on Senator Kennedy's Recovery?

Ever since the sad news of Senator Ted Kennedy's brain tumor diagnosis broke, I've been seeing a barrage of news coverage that seems pretty postmortem. Article topics include:

The coverage makes me think media companies are rolling out their prefabricated eulogies a little too soon. In fact, if someone wasn't paying close attention, they might assume the Senator already died!

Are these reports an honor to Senator Kennedy, or disrespectful? Since he did just receive a very serious diagnosis, should the country take the opportunity to celebrate all of his achievements while he is still alive? Should the media adopt a more hopeful and positive outlook in order to support Kennedy's efforts to battle the tumor?

This Just In: Tom Brady Likes to Lose

In light of Sunday's Super Bowl results, I'd have to say that Tom Brady is making a habit of losing these days. In addition to his team's Sunday loss, Brady has unloaded his 3,412-square-foot, three bedroom, three-and-a-half bath Boston condo for $5,285,000, according to Real Estalker. Property records show that he paid $4,125,000 for the 10 room condo four years ago, so I guess he's gained a million or so. The property's real estate listing calls the Burrage Mansion the "Back Bay's crowning jewel," so you might say the quarterback king has been dethroned.

The residence features "gorgeous museum quality lobby, elevator access to elegant foyer, [a] fabulous kitchen opening to [a] fireplaced family room, separate dining room, [and a] fireplaced living room," in addition to a "beautiful master bedroom suite with marble bath and custom closets." Music Video: Paul Rudd and David Wain Do Karaoke

I've been crushing on Paul Rudd ever since Clueless. I mean, he's cute, he's funny, he can act, and - as I learned today - he can also rock some serious karaoke. On Friday night, Of Montreal played a show at Studio B in Brooklyn, and the band took a break for a bit of hipster karaoke. Rudd was there, and he and David Wain (Wet Hot American Summer, "The State") treated the crowd to a rollicking rendition of Boston's "More Than a Feeling."

Idolator graciously posted a video of the performance, which is pretty hilarious and also not half bad. I highly recommend you check it out, so
