Melanie, of the fabulous Etsy shop Plum Cushion, lives in a seriously stylish 1941 Cape Cod in Seattle. The bones of her home are nice, but it's her cool palette and ability to modernize vintage pieces that really make it hip. One of my favorite elements was how she painted her Rococo sconces and mirror and her Chinoiserie console table to match the blue of her walls.

I don't normally think of Etsy as the go-to place for chandeliers. But, having found this French Blue Chandelier ($58) treasure, I think I'll reconsider. This antique-style fixture is utterly charming, and its curved arms would add interest to any room.

As you can tell from my recent paint job, I'm really loving grays with blue/purple undertones. I guess I'd consider it a mix of sapphire, amethyst, and slate. I went for a big dose of the hue with Benjamin Moore's Amethyst Shadow on my walls, but I wouldn't mind bringing home some more of the color.

Red and green may evoke the holiday season for many of you, but nothing says Winter like some shiny, icy blue. Put a match to some tea lights in the Wisteria Cool Blue Mercury Glass Votive Holders ($18.20 for six, reduced from $28) and your home will be a Winter wonderland, sans the icicles and frigidity. Considering how trendy mercury glass is these days, I can't help but snatch them up.

I personally tend to gravitate towards modern décor, though I ideally like to mix styles. But, as I was raised in a traditional-style home, I do have an appreciation for the sort of old, dusty way of decorating . .

On beautiful Summer days, it's always convenient to have a furnished outdoor lounge area for entertaining, or just taking an escape of your own. If you have such a space, and you're anything like yours truly, you feel the urge to decorate the space just as you would the interior of your home. But, a part of me feels like the last thing I should be doing during my carefree endless Summer is worrying about coordinating colors and themes, etc.

Sometimes, inspiration comes in very unexpected places, and yesterday, I was inspired by a picture of a brilliantly blue bird. The indigo bunting is a small songbird that is more often seen along roadsides or in abandoned farm fields than it is in heavily forested or urban areas. What this pretty bird with the distinctive song probably doesn't know, however, is that its plumage is the same color as Snorkel Blue, one of the hottest colors this year, and one that's been eagerly co-opted by designers of all ilks.

One of the changes I made this month for Dress Your Walls was to paint the bedroom blue. It used to be a drab beige with a weird brown border along the bottom (this was pre-CasaSugar move-in), and it took two coats of low-VOC primer and two more coats of low-VOC paint to get the color right.
Cool colors, such as blue, brown, and grey, are thought to promote concentration and calmness.

Shak in Style recently blogged about the gorgeous, luxe look of blue velvet, and I absolutely fell in love with the photos she chose, and had to repost them here. I love how rich and warm these colors and textures appear. I've actually owned both a green and a burgundy Victorian velvet sofa, though I would've vastly preferred a deep, rich blue velvet over either of those colors.

In this 700-square-foot Tribeca loft designed by Ghislaine Viñas, precision and simplicity rule the roost, along with one particular: pink. The owner, a life-long pink enthusiast, wanted to give her family home some personality with her beloved bright pink and magenta hues. So the focus of the living room is this bright '70s-style corner sectional, and white and light oak give the space lightness and a neutral background to tame the vibrancy of the furnishings.
