Former Fixer-Upper of DJ AM Is For Sale

The former Beverly Hills home of the late DJ AM has been listed for $3.8 million. The 4-bedroom, 4.5-bath midcentury home is private and gated with both canyon and city views. It boasts "rich mahogany floors, custom built-in theater, Crestron system, and flat-screen TVs throughout, two-sided fireplace, office, large kitchen with stainless steel appliances and carrerra marble countertops," according to the listing.

AM purchased the property for $1.9 million in the Spring of 2007, and made some wonderful changes to it before his death. I love how he landscaped the pool with grass and slate tiles to complement its prismatic shape and chime in on its modern aesthetic. When he bought the property there were also some awful Ionic columns out front, which were completely amiss with the midcentury architecture, and it looks like he replaced them with something simple or just covered them up with shrubbery. He also added one and one-half bathrooms. He modernized the two-sided fireplace in the living room and had a custom built-in theater built above it. And I suspect he installed a television which rises from the foot of bed. It's unfortunate that he wasn't able to see the profits of his terrific renovations.

Diane Keaton Flips Again

For a change, prolific house flipper Diane Keaton has put her private residence on the market after teaming up with interior designer Stephen Shadley to make extensive changes. The 8,434-square-foot house is a Spanish Colonial Revival in Beverly Hills with seven bedrooms and nine baths, and is listed for $12,995,000. It was originally designed in the 1920s by architect Ralph Flewelling, who is well-known for the fountain he designed for the intersection of Wilshire and Santa Monica boulevards in Los Angeles. The home is decorated with a sort of Spanish authenticity combined with an "old California" reference, giving it a very Western vibe. Its fantastic lighting, vast courtyard, and stunning architectural features (arches galore) are undoubtedly its greatest features, although Keaton and Shadley have given a very welcoming, rustic polish that I find unique. I don't know how I feel about the sleeping Mexican farmer statues arranged around her courtyard fountain - common in missions, but strange in a home. On the Market: Matthew Perry's Former Pad

Are you a Friends fan with an eye for modern real estate? Then you're in luck because, according to Big Time, the 8,000-square-foot, four-bedroom, five-bath Beverly Hills former home of Matthew Perry is on the market for $12.5 million.The listing for the property reads:

"Lautner-esque" Modern estate at the end of quiet cul-de-sac in Trousdale. Poliform kitchen opens to family room, which spills out to sizable back yard with large lawn, outdoor cooking & dining, and infinity pool & spa. Perry purchased the property in 1999 for $2.9 million, and sold it in 2005 for $6.1 million. This Spring, he purchased a modern three-bedroom in LA for $4.5 million. And this Summer he paid $883,000 for a modest fixer-upper in LA's Studio City. It's clear that Perry is a modern man who loves to shop the market. While this industrial modern estate isn't quite my taste, it's certainly quite dramatic and architecturally stunning. I'd love to spend a weekend there, or even a few months . . . and pretend to be Marcia Brady with a trust fund.

Country singin' couple Faith Hill and Tim McGraw have put their sprawling 10,500-square-foot, six-bedroom, five-bath Beverly Hills mansion on the market for a measly $14.8 million, according to Real Estalker. The property description reads:

Mediterranean estate w/ grand views & privacy in prestigious Beverly Park South. Situated on over 4 acres the estate offers sweeping panoramic views. Grand two story entry features limestone floors, large skylight & wrap around staircase. This home is highlighted by a spacious and elegant master suite w/ his & her baths connecting to a state of the art gym. Gourmet kitchen w/ stainless steel appliances, large open formal dining room w/ step down living room. Manicured gardens w/ luxurious pool.

I'm really loving the exterior, and the structure itself, and "sweeping panoramic views" sound pretty fab to me. But, I'm not too keen on some of their nouveau riche décor choices (faux wall treatments, so much beige). I'm sure all of their furnishings are high quality, but the interior doesn't seem to have much flavor, flow, or any cohesive style . . . a shabby chic pink dining room and then an Art Deco brick red sitting room? Real estate slump? What real estate slump? Seems like musician Robbie Williams might be immune to bad property values news, as he has paid a whopping $23.9 million for a 13,638-square-foot, seven-bedroom, seven-bath mansion in Beverly Hills, according to Real Estalker.The listing for the sprawling property reads:

Spectacular main house, 2-story 3br GH, separate staff quarters, expansive lawns, gorgeous landscaping, terraces, fountains, pl & spa. Timeless elegance & extraordinary charm. Mark Wahlberg has put his five-bedroom, 10.5-bathroom, 15,000-square-foot Beverly Hills manse on the market for a whopping $15.9 million, according to Real Estalker. The listing for the property reads:

Privacy, unbelievable outdoor areas and gorgeous views. 15,000 SF of dramatic spaces, including an amazing 2 story private guest house, basketball court, 2500 SF gym with boxing rink and trainer's quarter, lavish waterfall pool w/ grotto, cabanas wired for sound and flatscreens. Newly constructed motor-court, Screening room/Theatre appointed w/ high ceilings, 35mm digital projection technology, 2 luxurious living rooms, bedroom suites all opening to lush gardens and resort like settings.

Wahlberg purchased the property in November 2001 for $4.95 million, and since then has dropped a lot of dollars on renovations. There doesn't seem to anything particularly exceptional about the property; it's your typical outlandish celebrity property with all of the unnecessary conveniences, few unique architectural elements, and not a stitch of personal style. I must say, I think a television screen that takes up nearly the entire wall (and isn't concealed) is beyond tacky. On the Market: Madonna's Former Abode

Want to feel a little closer to the Material Girl? Then you might want to consider buying an eight-bedroom, nine-bath 1926 Beverly Hills manse that was once owned by Madonna. That is, if you have some millions to spare: the mansion is on the market for nearly $17.5 million.

The property's current owners purchased the 6,458-square-foot Spanish-style home from Madonna for $8.75 million in 2004. Designed by architect Wallace Neff, who also designed the Pickfair Mansion, the gated house features "courtyards, an outdoor fireplace and dining area, a pool, formal gardens, a detached office, and two guesthouses," and was featured in the July 1999 issue of Architectural Digest. Madonna purchased the property for $6.5 million from actress Diane Keaton, who is a well-known property flipper with an interest in historic California homes.

As Pop will tell you, Britney Spears has put her 7,453-square-foot, 6-bedroom, 6.5-bath home in Beverly Hills on the market for $7.9 million. But, lucky for you, I've got more intel on the property. According to Real Estalker, the property description reads:

Exquisite gated Italian Renaissance Villa w/approx 7,500 sq ft of luxury, 6 BD, 6 ½ BA, wet bar, library, den, chic dining rm, & grand foyer. Artisan quality finishes, dramatic high ceilings, millwork, stone & mosaic tile floors, & iron accents. Chef’s kit w/Viking appliances & breakfast nook open to spacious great room. Romantic Master w/fireplace, & loggia. Manicured grounds incl. pool, spa, arbor, & lush landscape ideal for entertaining. Offered w/select furnishings, accessories, & art work.

It sounds pretty swank to me (despite the somewhat cheesy décor), and I love the open outdoor patio sitting area. Spears purchased the property for $6.75 million back in January 2007 - not exactly her most lucid days - so maybe she regrets the purchase. This Just In: Nicole and Keith Bound For Beverly Hills

Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban have paid a pretty penny for record producer and songwriter Ron Fair’s 3,977-square-foot manse in Beverly Hills. The sale price is not known, but it was originally listed at $4.8 million. The listing for the 1965 property reads

Recently completed and exceptionally finished contemporary home features a full-floor, upstairs master suite comprised of dual walk-in closets, a designer-chic bathroom, and a spacious sitting room/office area. Plentiful French doors and sliding walls of glass bathe the house in light. Tree and ridge-top views from the private and serene pool area. Outdoor dining, a grassy side-yard /play area, and an additional, not-yet-developed portion of land across the street round out this rare offering.

I'm not wildly impressed with the house, at least as it's currently staged; as these pictures attest, it's modern in a boring way. But, I will say that it appears to offer great light, and features a secluded, spacious pool area. Maybe Nicole and Keith can warm this space up with some organic and elegant furnishings and rugs. Oh, and if they ever need to borrow a cup of sugar, they can call on neighbors Kimora Lee Simmons and Jessica Simpson, who both live in the 'hood.

This Just In: Pete Sampras Scores $23 Million-Love

Back in January, I told you about how tennis star Pete Sampras had served his home to the market. Well, according to Big Time, a mere five months later, Sampras and actress wife Bridgette Wilson-Sampras have sold that five-bedroom, walled and gated mock Tudor mansion in Beverly Hills for a mere $23 million. Cha-ching! Sampras is also said to own a house at Palos Verdes Estates, California which he purchased in mid-2000 for $785,000, but no word yet on where he'll be calling home next. It baffles me that a sane individual would spend $23 million on a house that sits on only 1.04 acres: talk about lack of privacy! But, the property does boast "12 baths, exquisite detailed finishes throughout, a professional theater, an office/library, maid's quarters, a master suite with sitting room, his and hers baths, and a sun deck, in addition to magnificently landscaped grounds, a north/south tennis court, a putting green, play areas, and a pool." I suppose if you're feeling like you need some privacy, you can always retreat to one of the 12 bathrooms, right?
