Since graduating from my twin bed in high school, I've always been too lazy and cheap to invest in a headboard. I know there are lots of do-it-yourself solutions, but screwing things into my wall or bed always seemed like too big of a hassle to me. I love this idea from HGTV's website of using a large, colorful piece of artwork as a headboard of sorts. Now if only I knew where to find a cool painting for not too much money . . .

Guess Who's Looking Stylish in Her Beautiful Bedroom?

Photographer Todd Selby was asked by Cole Haan to cast, photograph, and interview a group of people who he found inspiring for the brand's Spring Summer 2010 campaign. He selected store owners, gallery directors, athletes, DJs, musicians, and photographers, and photographed many of them in their homes. Naturally, they all had stylish digs. My favorite of all those featured was this bedroom belonging to a Russian lady whose success arguably has as much to do with her athletic prowess as her beauty. Can you guess who she is?

When we closed on our house a month ago, we had a lot of work to do in the master bedroom. Before, the white walls and old carpeting were a drag. By warming up the space with paint, exposing the hardwood floors, and adding a little personality with décor, we were in business!

I've been on the hunt for a new set of sheets for the last month or so, but I'm too picky to order them online and I haven't had time to go to the store to look for some. When it comes to sheets, I need to see and touch them before I buy them - or at least have a referral from a friend. So when a set of Charles P. Rogers Shiro 400 Thread Count Circle Sheets ($119) arrived at my desk to review, I was thrilled but still wary; I can be pretty hard to please. I brought them home and gave them a thorough test (sleeping - the best kind!) for a few days, followed by a good washing. Want to hear what I think of them?

Before and After: From Trashy Trunk to Très Chic

While much of the country has been digging their way out of heaps of snow, we've been spoiled by gorgeous pink cherry blossoms covering the San Francisco hills. Feeling inspired by the Spring blooms, I decided to paint a time-warped trunk with a bird and branch motif, turning it into something cheery for a little girl's boudoir.

Found It! Black and White Duvet and Shams

CasaSugar Community member Sartuc asked the Assisted Living group if anyone knew where to find the black and white duvet cover and pillow shams featured in this photo from my 10 Cool Alternatives to Off-the-Shelf Headboards slideshow. Lucky for Sartuc, she's come to the right place, because I do! To find out where the bedding is from, read more.

The bedding is Pottery Barn's Tile Organic Duvet Cover & Sham, but unfortunately it's no longer available. I did find a few for sale on eBay, but most of them seem to be in the clementine.

But! You may be in luck because Pottery Barn sells its Tile Print by the yard ($40) custom cut in one yard increments, which you can purchase to have your duvet and shams made.

Does anyone have any suggestions for where Sartuc can purchase a similar duvet and shams that are actually in stock? We're thinking Moroccan-inspired trellis prints. Have a question of your own? Be sure to post it to our Assisted Living group!

Cool Idea: A Bed of Beams

Touring Austin's Bouldin Castle, a former Mission-style- turned-fairytale home, I noticed a set of platform beds made from stacked wooden beams and felt a serious pang of envy. The beds have an awesome organic modern quality to them that's just downright cool. I wouldn't be surprised if the beams were salvaged, too; they do look a bit worn. The good thing is that if you have the initiative to make your own, it's an easy DIY waiting to happen. You'll need to drill together about 33 standard beams to support a full or queen size mattress, but really the concept can be customized for any bed size you need. The only trouble is that you have to be willing to give up your box spring! What do you think? Do you love 'em like me?

Assisted Living: Exotic Indian Bedroom Ideas

"I just bought this bedding from Anthropologie to redecorate my room. I'm looking for an Indian exotic influenced flair without being too literal and I want to keep the color palette spicy and exotic.

I'm afraid if I choose one of the colors from the quilt, though, it will be a bit overpowering. I was also thinking of draping my canopy bed with saris or sari-like fabric. I need suggestions for the walls and furniture as well as any other ideas or input."

I love that bedding, annajeb. Since it's such a busy pattern, you might want to consider decorating with solid-colored fabrics if you decide to do a canopy. You should definitely work within the color palette established by the bedding, but stick to a solid color, or try a few solid colors that pick up the colors in the bedding.

For wall color, you could either keep it crisp and white, or use a more spicy color, as you indicated you were interested in doing. You might want to use an accent color for the wall behind the bed, and then paint the rest of the walls white.

As far as furniture, I can see darker, heavier wood working well for accent furniture. Look for mango wood or sheesham wood.

Desire/Acquire: West Elm Basketweave Headboard

If you're trying to cut corners buying bedroom furniture, a headboard is definitely something you can eliminate from your shopping list. You can try one of these 10 cool headboard alternatives or even just paint a headboard. But if you insist, you might as well buy an affordable one, right? This Basketweave Headboard ($350 on sale), made of natural banana leaves, has a cool modern island look to it that would work in a lot of bedrooms. But even on sale, it might be too expensive for some.

The Pier 1 Sea Grass Block Queen Headboard ($160 on sale) also has a basketweave pattern and is made of natural sea grass. The color is much lighter than West Elm's version, but it gives the same effect at a much, much more affordable price point!
