Rope in Style With Hanging Beds

A floating bed brings a sense of illusion and fun to a room, but I prefer to have something else to anchor it. Adding rope not only feels more secure, but it also turns a floating bed into something that resembles a large swing. Perfect for playing up nautical themes, adding texture, or just an element of fantasy, I'm dying to try this look out! What Side of the Bed Do You Sleep On?

Whether single or taken, plenty of people have a preference when it comes to what side of the bed to sleep on. In any case, it's a smart idea to have nightstands with table lamps or wall sconces on both sides of the bed, so there's a place to stash books, cell phones, and glasses of water. Some of us like to be closer to a door or window when we sleep, which may play a part in our mattress side of choice. For some, the preference is illogical. What side of the bed do you sleep on?

Do You Hang Out in Bed?

I've been drooling over this DIY headboard on Desire to Inspire - isn't it amazing? (You can learn how to make it here.) The shot of the DIYer reading in bed next to her pristine nightstand may be what really drew me in. I love the idea of lounging in bed doing something other than sleeping - reading a favorite mag, finishing a book, listening to music, even getting work done - but I rarely do it for whatever reason. I know most of you are down with eating and drinking in bed, but do you ever just hang out?

Love It or Hate It? Chiasso's Lilly Headboard

Do you dream of the disco? Then Chiasso's Lilly Headboard ($698) might just be the thing for you. I can't help but think that the name "Lilly" is too conservative for a piece of furniture made of shiny metallic silver PVC with tufts galore. It seems a bit like something you'd see in a Vegas hotel, but I think if the right designer came around, it could be introduced into a more sophisticated bedroom. What are your thoughts on the headboard?

Su Casa: A Stylish Bedroom Update

I covered the walls with Ralph Lauren metallic paint. I was able to update a traditional look by using mirrored dressers, lucite lamps, and an absence of color. The bedside lights are on dimmers. The switches are affixed to the back of the dressers, which are within arm's reach when you're in bed. The lumbar pillow is faux croc embossed leather.

Do You Have a Platform Bed?

There's something about platform beds that seems much more relaxing than other styles. The low-lying feature instantly makes a bedroom look like exactly what it's meant for . . . sleeping! No reaching over to a waist-height desk in the middle of the night. No eye-level artwork distracting you. Just staring up at the ceiling from below and dozing off.

Assisted Living: Blair Waldorf's Bed

I searched the web but it's not easy to find beds in her classy French style. Love It or Hate It? Beds With Built-In Nightstands

I was clicking through some photos from Inception, mostly just to get a glimpse of the incredible cast, and couldn't help but stop and stare at this photo! I have no clue what's going on here, but my guess is that all these well-dressed men are passed out in a hotel room. Why? Hotel rooms are the only places I've ever seen headboards with built-in nightstands. But in fact, they are sold to consumers, too. All the built-ins I've seen are super modern, but I suppose there's no reason the designs couldn't accomodate other styles. In any case, do you like them? Would you want one in your home?

Cool Idea: Curtains Head the Bed

If you're lucky enough to have a four-poster bed, instead of leaving it bare or romantically curtaining the entire sleeper, try creating a canopy look by only hanging fabric around the head of the bed. I especially love House to Home's idea of using a fun tab-top curtain and simply tying it around the upper frame, but any drapery would suffice (I'm even thinking a fabric shower curtain and rings could do the trick). This simple yet dramatic DIY canopy is not only a fun addition to a child's room, but the right fabric would be a fantastic fit in a grown-up's boudoir too.
