Love It or Hate It? Subway Tile Mat

While I love subway tiles on the wall, I'm not sure how I feel about them when they're woven into a bath mat. Still, the Lux Subway Tile Bath Mat ($26) may have its appeal. What's your take?

My beloved, fresh, and always-lovely India Rose just became a bit more accessible. The lush, plush, and oh-so-adorable India Rose Amara Bathmat ($40, reduced from $50) is on sale at Burke Decor (and normally $58 at India Rose). Considering that your basic hardware store variety of bathmat goes for $20, I think this is a great deal. The mat's raised polka dots and twisted hook fringe are downright precious, too. It's made from 100 percent cotton and measures 23 by 25 inches. Clearly, it's a bit feminine and youthful, so it's not for every bathroom. But, for those who can make it work, go for it!

DIY: Recycled Bathmat

Need a project for Earth Day? Here's a great one from Michelle Kaufmann. As she mentions in the video, this recycled towel bathmat project is a perfect activity to do while watching a movie. Instead of using old towels, Michelle also suggests substituting old t-shirts for the main material of the bathmat. Now, if only I can convince the person I live with to give up all those old concert t-shirts for this project . . .

It's hard not to love DwellStudio, especially considering all of designer Christiane Lemieux's talent and design expertise. I've long been a fan of the textile company's bedding designs, but unfortunately I'm not in the market for new bed linens. So, I'm delighted to see that DwellStudio has made its foray into la salle de bain. The DwellStudio Petal Plus Bath Mat ($67) is good, clean fun. Its pared-down "petals" are in essence colorful, iconic, First Aid symbols, which couldn't be more appropriate for the bathroom. The 100 percent cotton mat is also super plush and double-sided, making it a cinch to throw in the washing machine. You like?

Midday Muse: Bathroom Rugs

We've seen an influx of striking outdoor rugs this year, made from polypropylene that can be hand washed or hose cleaned in second but with the good looks of an indoor rug. That's great and everything, but I want to know when a bath mat is going to come along that's not simply white and furry. Who decided that bath mats had to be plain and oh-so-boring? I'm eager to see a rug that's not only as good looking as those we'd put in our living or dining rooms but can also dry our drippy feet after a shower. Are you out there, designers? Please answer my call. Or, am I missing something? Does what I'm looking for already exist?

Do you hate walking around the house after a shower with wet feet? Then maybe the Mat Walk ($49) is for you. Combining the bathroom mat with a pair of slippers, this rather odd product will allow you to shuffle from room to room without worry of getting your toes cold.

Considering that a standard, plain white bathmat usually runs around 20 bucks, I think this Anthropologie Crystalline Bathmat ($19.95) is a great deal. It's hooked on one side and tufted on the other (and claims to be "ultrasoft"), and has a charming green swirling, petal-like design. Along with a feminine shower curtain and some pear-colored perfume bottles, you could usher in a whole new look for your bathroom for under $150.

This bathmat-sized Fred Flare Undy Rug ($24) would be best suited for the loo or the laundry room. But even then, I find it just a little too silly. What do you think?

Steal of the Day: Eileen Fisher Sheer Linen Shower Curtain

While I do love my patterned shower curtain, I think having a solid white curtain would create more of a spa-like atmosphere, combined with perhaps a teak bathmat, etc. The Eileen Fisher Sheer Linen Shower Curtain ($79, reduced from $128) certainly does the trick. Its delicate woven pure linen has a healthy, organic vibe to it, and its reinforced buttonholes omit the need for industrial-looking shower curtain rings. I love the way the curtains look all bunched up together here. I'd love to use more than one curtain to achieve a similar bunched and draped effect. What do you think?
