Olympic golden boy Michael Phelps has just acquired a crave worthy pad, paying $1.69 million for a 4,080-square-foot condo overlooking Baltimore's revitalized Harborfront, according to the Maryland Leader. The pad features amenities sure to win over any young Olympian, such as a rooftop terrace with fireplace, a private screening room, a state-of-the-art gym, a clubhouse with pool tables, and a Jacuzzi. He also recently purchased the Meadowbrook Swim Club and Northwest Ice Rink in Baltimore, which he and his coach plan to turn into an elite Olympic training center, and on the car front, he has been looking at "some Aston Martins and some Maseratis."

When Ron Tanner purchased his 1897 Baltimore Queen Anne row house, it had experienced a few too many paddle-whacks by rowdy fraternity members, who had no appreciation for its historic architectural details. Since it was in solid condition structurally, and nearby Loyola College, where he works, he snatched it up "as is," and signed it up for a long stint of rehab. This meant he'd purchased, "a walk-in closet full of illicit term papers, three refrigerators full of leftovers, 16 empty beer kegs, a 20-foot bar, and far too many unflushed and clogged toilets," as well as "a room full of garbage" — enough to fill "79 large garbage bags and three 30-yard Dumpsters."

This past weekend, I finally visited my local library and picked up a few books and DVDs (and paid my late fines). While my little neighborhood library isn't nearly as glamorous as the George Peabody Library in Baltimore, MD, it still is a source of comfort, simply because I'm surrounded by books (plus my library has a great open-beamed ceiling). Take a look at the gallery below and see if any of these library interiors inspire you, and if any of the frescoes, tables, tiled floors, or shelves could be adapted to your home.

I first took notice of Christopher Coleman when I saw him sitting next to Sheila Bridges (a designer whose work never fails to impress me), in the June 2007 issue of ELLE Decor offering advice on the best weatherproof tables for your home. I figured that anyone associated with Bridges (and anyone that good looking) must be worth checking out, and I was right.
Christopher Coleman is a born and bred Baltimore boy and a graduate of the Maryland Institute for Contemporary Art, who founded his own design firm, Christopher Coleman Interior Design, in Brooklyn's hip DUMBO district in 1993.
