The Iconic Egg Chair's Guide to the Galaxy

If, like me, you're a fan of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy books, good news: the latest book in Douglas Adams's series has recently been released, with And Another Thing . . . written by Irish author Eoin Colfer. But what does this have to do with interior decorating, you ask? Well, a lot! Since the iconic Arne Jacobsen Egg chair is featured in Colfer's book, a limited-edition version of the egg chair was created by Fritz Hansen in collaboration with Lost Weekend and Penguin Group. The redesign features an embroidered, colorful array of lines on the back of the chair, representing an exploding Earth. Each chair is made from white hide and comes with a coordinating cowhide pillow. A matching footstool will also be available for sale as well. Only 42 chairs will be made, so these are definitely collector's items.

If you're in New York, stop by the Union Square Barnes and Noble at 7 p.m. this evening to check out a reading by Colfer, and one of the iconic chair redesigns, in person!

Roundup: Bold, Basic Clocks

In case this young girl is worried about running late, she can double-check her train times on the 19th-century clock above her head. Featured in the 1920s film Brief Encounter, the clock at Carnforth Railway Station in England is wound by hand each week. While I'm not keen on winding a clock weekly, I do love this clock's bold, basic look.

For a similar look, try the Arne Jacobsen Romer Clock ($370), which was designed for the Rathaus in Aarhus, Denmark in 1937. With bold Roman numerals and a thin band of black around the circumference, the clock will tell you the time in a non-nonsense, handsome manner.

Nice and New: 50th Anniversary Swan Chair

You've no doubt seen it in a trendy design store, a hotel lobby, or a wealthy friend's living room. The Swan Chair, designed by Danish architect Arne Jacobsen in 1958 for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, is one of the design world's most famous chairs, thanks to its welcoming and comfortable curves and lack of straight lines. To celebrate its 50th anniversary, Fritz Hansen, the original manufacturer, released 1,958 limited-edition Swan Chairs on Saturday, each in swan-white, semianiline leather with a pearl-white base, each with a sterling silver pendant around its base, engraved with a unique number. This Just In: Arne Jacobsen's Classic Egg Chair Reimagined

To celebrate 50 years of the iconic Arne Jacobsen Egg chair, artist Tal R has created 50 unique designs of the chair, which were revealed this past week at the furniture fair in Milan. The 50 designs will be exhibited at Galleria Carla Sozzani through April 27, and then will travel to galleries and museums around the world.

The patchwork-quilt Egg chair designs are made from materials collected in such far corners as Istanbul and Denmark. "The whole point was to make a chair that tells a multitude of stories. So the pieces of cloth had to be full of life. It should look a bit as if it was homemade," explains Tal R.

This Just In: Happy 50th Mr. Egg Chair!

The world famous Egg chair, designed by Danish architect Arne Jacobsen in 1958 and manufactured by Fritz Hansen, will celebrate its 50th anniversary this year by releasing 999 limited-edition designs. The limited-edition collection will debut a chocolate-brown suede back and chocolate-brown leather upholstery, and a hand-polished, solid-bronze base. Each chair will be marked with a unique number and brief history of the celebrated design, and be accompanied by a limited-edition 50th anniversary book. The Egg chair was originally designed for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, Denmark and can be seen around the world in the National Art Center in Tokyo, high-end hotels, and private homes. The 999 limited-edition designs will be available for purchase in select stores beginning Feb. 1.

Coveted Crib: Slaughterhouse Fine

A former slaughterhouse in Ulricehamn, Sweden, was transformed into this fabulous coveted crib. Outfitted with furniture and accessories from around the world, the space feels much more metropolitan than you'd expect from a rural Swedish home. An extensive collection of artwork is mixed with both vintage and modern furniture. Antique Corinthian columns mingle with an Arne Jacobsen Swan chair, worn wood surfaces with plush velvet, and IKEA with Philippe Starck, creating endless serendipitous juxtapositions. Coveted Crib: An Art Collector's Curated Minimalism

When you are an art collector, you don't need an interior designer or even color on your walls to have a painfully coveted crib. In the town of Lille in northern France, a French art collector turned a former textile factory into a 557-square-foot loft with a patio. He kept the mill's original crisscross shaped trusses and painted everything white, including beautiful features like cast-iron columns. Meanwhile, the floor is simple gray cement, creating a neutral background for his collection. Paintings and sculptures dominate the loft, with the exception of one wall near the entrance which was painted a spectacular orange, cued to the color of an Arne Jacobsen Egg Chair in the room. Alexander McQueen Debuts Limited-Edition Egg Chair

Alexander McQueen is taking his talent from the runway to your living room. The Egg Chair, which he created in 2002 as part of his store design - not to be confused with Arne Jacobsen's Egg Chair - will be produced in a limited-edition run of five chairs, available to buy this month in his London and New York boutiques. The chairs will feature his iconic houndstooth print from the AW09/10 women's collection, "The Horn of Plenty." Coveted Crib: Black and White and Modern All Over

I love too many colors and styles to ever go only black, white, and modern, but I applaud he who has the restraint (and the balls) to do it. I spotted this large Georgian house in Tetbury, a small town in - believe it or not - the Cotswolds, and was blown away. Short of a dab of yellow paint in some artwork and its plush green lawn, the house is all black, white, and gray, and each room is essentially either entirely black or white. This makes matching oh so easy! Is that a cop-out? Beyond that, low-slung, stream-lined furnishings rule, and some modern classics like cowhide rugs and Arne Jacobsen Egg Chairs and glitzy elements like crystal chandeliers and tufted furniture are spattered throughout. It's a very powerful space that's not necessarily what I would personally create for my own home, but I'd kill to stay over a few nights. See more photos and chime in when you read more.
