Found It! Alexander McQueen's Table

Recently reading a Fashionologie post on designers Dries Van Noten and Alexander McQueen's Spring 2009 collections, I couldn't help but notice the glass-top table in the photo of McQueen glaring back at me. If you're scratching your head wondering why it looks familiar to you, that's because it is. The table is a life-size sculpture of a woman as furniture with fetishist and sado-masochist overtones designed by British artist Allen Jones in 1969 as part of his very famous "Hat Stand and Table" series. I featured his Chair sculpture in the series, which sits in London's Tate Gallery, as a Weird Furniture post not too long ago. In the mid-1960s, the Brit Pop painter, sculptor, and printmaker found inspiration in the human figure, and created provocatively erotic works that were meant to arouse an emotional response in the viewer — McQueen's table, otherwise known as forniphilia, is an extreme example of this technique. Weird Furniture: Allen Jones Chair

More sex-centric potentially misogynistic furniture, anyone? The other week we brought you some sexy furniture in wood, and now we have this chair. This oddity was designed by Allen Jones in 1969. Constructed of painted plastic and mixed media, if you want to get a closer look at it head over to the Tate Gallery in London.

I don't know about you, but I just can't imagine those stilettos being a very comfortable headrest.

Weird Furniture: Mario Philippona Design (NSFW)

Dutch sculptor Mario Philippona developed a series called "Sexy Furniture," which mimics female forms in challenging wood. These shapes, he writes in a statement on his website, are "the most attractive in nature," and have inspired him. He designs his works on life-size working drawings and assembles his sculptures from pre-cut layers of wood, so that they're anatomically correct. He sees perfectionism, he writes on his site, "in the way women use fashion, high heels, fitness, and plastic surgery to portray themselves," and cites artists Allen Jones and Salvador Dali as inspiration. His works are finished with natural oil and wax and handcrafted from regional timber, the colors and textures of which he uses to emphasize his forms.
Shown here is the Boobycase, a sideboard of sorts (and the least graphic of his pieces), which was inspired by "a woman with fantastic breasts, seen in the sauna."
