I thought I'd continue the talk of warm colors with one color that's very trendy these days: orange. I see orange paired often with deep grays in spare, contemporary spaces. But it looks equally smart in traditional rooms, paired with turquoise or navy. A room painted in orange, or even a chair upholstered in orange, probably wouldn't be my thing. But I do like orange used in accents, especially if the color is continued throughout the room. So I thought I'd round a few up. From clocks and candles to wall hooks and letter trays, orange comes in all shapes, forms, and functions.

Roundup: White Porcelain Accessories

Ever since I saw West Elm's white Parsons Desk, I haven't been able to resist white, be it furniture, drapery, or accessories. White, obviously, is a very versatile color that goes with everything! But not only does it blend in well, it also has the power to make a disparate mix of furnishings look cohesive. I've noticed that a lot of decorators these days are using a collection of white porcelain accessories as a theme on bookshelves and other areas around the home that have no true focal point. White porcelain can become very spendy if you're buying intricate Nymphenburg Porcelain, but in general the material itself isn't particularly expensive. So, you can pick up a few porcelain accessories, be it vases, decorative objects, or candle holders, and create a collection without breaking the bank.

Real deer can be real pests in the garden, but in the home they are near and dear. These animal motifs can melt my heart like Bambi with their regal silhouettes and hipster hunting lodge effects.

Trend Alert: Perfectly Modern Patchwork

I have plenty of love for patchwork quilts. But my beloved quilts are going to start having patchwork envy if they get a load of these goods. After breaking free of the blanket, patchwork pieces and patterns are making their way onto all sorts of modern furniture silhouettes.

Roundup: Hit the Sack Pillows

These trendy pillows are anything but sad sacks. Like Danny Seo's recycled feed bag pillow, these chic throws are crafted from old rice bags and grain sacks, or at least made to look like they are.

Some are super colorful, like the Urban Outfitters Recycled Rice Sack Pillow ($20). The pop-art designs would look great in eclectic rooms or as a dash of color in an otherwise minimalist space. Trend Alert: 3-D Florals That Pop

Your garden may not be in full bloom, but the runways are flush with delicate and decadent 3-D florals. As I gazed at the parade of pretty designs, I couldn't help but notice some overlap with the three-dimensional petal-laden homewares spotted lately.

Forget floral prints. These flowers literally pop off of pillows, lampshades, and rugs for a look that's geometric and not at all grandma. Some are more romantic, like this Neiman Marcus Flower Pillow ($250-450), while others are downright edgy. Take a look at the trends I've spotted below.

Casa Shops: Beehive Kitchenware Company

While Beehive Kitchenware Company does make measuring cups and lemon juicers, their range of fanciful metal accents ensures that you can use them in any room of your home. I have my eyes on Beehive's Paisley Hooks ($27) myself, though there are plenty of other pieces that have enchanted me. The company, which is located in Massachusetts, is owned and operated by Jim Dowd and Sandra Bonazoli. The metalworkers' collaborative work has been exhibited at the Museum of Arts & Design.

Jim and Sandra's work has been featured everywhere from Gourmet to Architectural Digest. They were first influenced to create their metal home accents after seeing how beautiful antique kitchen items were. With the goal of melding form with function, they started their line of products. Birds and bees are a repeating motif in the company's metalwork, as are delicate petaled flowers. You can order these products online, or find them at a local retailer.

Beehive notes that, as part of their environmental policy,

We use only recycled paper in our office and recycle all our paper, junk mail, and cardboard (no small feat!). Our packing peanuts are made from bio-degradable material. Our products come in boxes that are made from recycled, unbleached paper, and are most often nestled in a natural, compostable material. There is very little in the manufacture of our products that creates waste: any reject castings get re-melted, and we recycle every bit of our scrap metals. And of course all of our pewter is lead-free, without any electroplating, to protect the health of our water.

The company also only works with local and national suppliers to cut down on their carbon footprint. While these items are definitely not "needs" for a home, they will complete a home's look and add a whimsical, beautiful touch to any room. I like to think of Beehive's products as things that you might not necessarily buy for yourself, but would be on the top of your list for thank-you gifts for your favorite friends and family.

Leafy Autumn Accents

In case you haven't noticed, I get really excited about the arrival of autumn. There's something about the crisp, cool air that makes me want to hang a festive but unfussy wreath and make spiced cider.

Of course, there's nothing more classically autumnal than images of falling leaves, so I've been scouting out some pretty fall accents with a leafy look. The best part about most of my picks is that while they look autumnal, they don't scream fall, so you can also use them year round. Check out my choices below and tell me what you think.

Love It or Hate It? Overlapping Accent Rugs

I think the overlapping accent rugs in this kid's room, shot by Swedish photographer Ulrika Ekblom, work because the effect is playful and relaxed, just how every youngster's room should be. I've seen overlapping rugs used in more adult settings before and I'm not universally sold on it. You?

Have You Painted an Accent Wall?

Painting an accent wall is the simplest way to create a focal point in any room of a house. It requires just a little paint and a little time, and it's not as risky as painting an entire room. I'm loving this yellow wall from Harts Lane, a rental cottage in Australia. The room is fabulous otherwise in many ways, but the sunny color is just the finishing touch that the monochrome palette needs. Do you have an accent wall?
