Is Paying More For a Better View Worth It?

I know a lot of people are willing to fork out more money for a better view (and higher floor) at their apartments, but that's never really been very important to me. It's not like I spend hours looking out the window. In fact, I barely glance at it. Sometimes the difference of a good view and a not-so-good view can range from hundreds of dollars. What do you think - is a good view worth paying more?

At my house, I can see a lot of trees, but my main view is of the San Francisco skyline. Sometimes I miss the more idyllic views that I grew up with in a rural community. Do you have a nature view at your home?

Recently, I took you with me to Sam's Chowder House in Half Moon Bay, CA, a restaurant with a great view of the Pacific Ocean. I've always been a fan of restaurants that offer views of something other than the parking lot or the dry cleaners across the street - although, of course, it's also important that the establishment keeps it focus on the food, too.

In addition to Sam's, I also happen to love the sweeping bay windows that overlook Ocean Beach (and the Pacific) at The Beach Chalet. And in Chicago, nothing beats The Signature Room, especially at night. Tell me: What are your favorite scenic restaurants?

I wish this were the view from my front porch! It's actually the view from a farm stay at a cabin I visited in New Zealand a few years ago.

I also love the view from my home's deck, but I've lived in a few other places where the view was less than desirable. What's it like at your casa?

Forster's A Room with a View, on holiday in Italy, Miss Honeychurch and Miss Bartlett are vexed to find out that their views are not quite they were hoping for, and then an elderly man and his son offer to trade rooms, presenting them with perfect views. This encounter proves to be important to the plot. In cities like New York, a perfect view can mean a difference of millions of dollars in real estate prices. Tell me, what's your view? Do Tell: Your Favorite View

Do you have a favorite view? Mine is the Golden Gate Bridge right before sunset on a warm day. The sky turns an orange yellow color, a sure sign of another gorgeous day to come. No matter how many times I see that sight, it never gets old.

We all know the saying, a picture is worth a thousands words, so if you could choose one view to admire from your bedroom window, everyday, do tell what would be your view of choice?

Classic Board Games With an iPhone Flair

Classic toy brand Hasbro thinks game night is in dire need of a tech edge, based on their just-revealed spin on classic games Monopoly and The Game of Life. At this year's Toy Fair, the company is previewing tech savvy versions of the games that use iOS devices during play.

Monopoly Zapped plays generally like the classic real estate game you know, but instead of fake paper money players tap "debit cards" on their iOS device of choice to withdraw or add funds to their game account. The app will also have side games to try for a free "get out of jail" pass.

Being mildly obsessed with The Game of Life as a kid, the Zapped version of the game is what I'm most excited to try. Use your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch for a digital version of the giant number spinner and view family snapshots of your fabulous life by the end of the game. The game also features over 100 videos from America's Funniest Home Videos, which I really hope can be skipped through on the app.

Life Zapped will hit store shelves in Spring, while its Monopoly counterpart debuts in the Fall. Both games will retail for $25. Are you interested in playing an apped-up version of the games, or is classic better when it comes to board games?

Brad and Angelina Wave Goodbye to Bosnia

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie wrapped up a whirlwind stay in Sarajevo today. They were ready to board a private jet, but first, Angelina thrilled some of the airport's workers by saying hello, signing autographs, and posing for photos. She and Brad arrived in Bosnia yesterday ahead of last night's In the Land of Blood and Honey premiere. Angelina, who directed the picture, joined stars Zana Marjanovic, Goran Kostic, Vanessa Glodjo, and Rade Serbedzija. It was an extra special event, as 50,000 were in the audience. Angelina Jolie got a standing ovation after the screening, and she was touched by the reaction. Angelina spoke about Bosnians watching the film, saying, "It has proven what is happening in the country. It has reminded people of the complications of the region, of the way people view each other. And also many people have risen up like these people who are doing private screenings in their homes . . . Many people have written to me. People are speaking up and not allowing someone to tell them how they should feel about the film, about each other, about history, and I think this is the extraordinary thing."

You Can Turn Work Stress Into a Good Thing

We're all about having a healthy work-life balance, but it's inevitable to have ups and downs. If you're struggling to cope with workplace stress, you might be cheered by this Harvard Business Review article, which says you can make your stress work to your advantage. Shawn Achor, HBR writer, says:

"Stress can cause the human brain to use more of its capabilities, improve memory and intelligence, increase productivity, and even speed recovery from things like knee surgery. Research indicates that stress, even at high levels, creates greater mental toughness, deeper relationships, heightened awareness, new perspectives, a sense of mastery, a greater appreciation for life, a heightened sense of meaning, and strengthened priorities."

We hear all about the negatives of stress but rarely hear about some of the better effects. Not to mention, it's easy to tap into the benefits of stress - you just need to view it as enhancing rather than debilitating.

The results of this research don't mean that we should all strive for more stress at work. Instead, we should try to channel that energy into something that will have a more productive outcome. For example, if work issues are weighing you down, clean your house as a way of harnessing the energy of your frustrations and putting it to good use. Other great outlets include exercising and organizing your clutter.
