Love It or Hate It? Painter's Chair

My grandmother was a painter and also a decorator, so she was very particular about the way her studio looked. Afraid her paints might ruin her studio floors, she painted them all black and then called in her friends for a splatterpainting party, purposefully painting her floors à la Jackson Pollock. This Urban Outfitters Painter's Chair ($298) is a bit like those floors, except much less inspired. Its allover splatterpaint is really just decorative, not functional. It's also a bit of a knock-off of Marcel Breuer's Wassily Chair. What do you think?

Love It or Hate It? Cardboard Fireplace

I spotted this Cardboard Fireplace ($24) at Urban Outfitters and I kind of love it. For one, the bricks remind me of the cardboard bricks I used to play with when I was a kid. And two, I love a good faux fireplace - my "crackling fire" DVD plays on repeat in the Winter. But I do wish this fireplace had a prettier mantel, like a white one with ornate moldings. What do you think?

Nice and New: The Wild Things Invade Urban Outfitters

These wild things make my heart sing. In anticipation of the upcoming big screen adaptation of Where the Wild Things Are, retailer Urban Outfitters has unleashed a relatively tame new collection inspired by the classic children's book.

Like the Spike Jonze-directed flick, these designs take into account the style of the original illustrations while adding a hip, modern twist. I love how most of them don't scream movie memorabilia but could still be cutely comforting for fans of the book. Check out the line below and let me know what you think.

Nice and New: Terrain's E-Commerce Site Is Now Live

Nearly two years ago, I announced that Urban Outfitters, Inc., was launching a garden site. And earlier this year, when Danny Seo checked it out in person, I was looking for an excuse to head to Philly to see the store for myself. But now, it doesn't look like I'll have to book a ticket for Pennsylvania any time soon, since the gorgeous gardening and lifestyle store has just launched an e-commerce store.

The online shop is filled with all sorts of gorgeous details for glamming up your outdoor space, from hanging lanterns to beautiful potting containers. There's also a variety of indoor furnishings, books, and wellness and spa items. To see my favorites, check out the widget below.

Sale Alert: 50 Percent Off Sale Items at Urban Outfitters

I love a sale that makes me get out of the house. Through July 19, Urban Outfitters is chopping an extra 50 percent off already-reduced sale items in-store only. I'm sure there are plenty of jumpers and fedoras for you hip children, but what I'm interested in is the décor, obviously!

Unfortunately, UO does have a few online exclusives that you might be after, and larger pieces like sofas and chairs might not be in stock in every store. But, I expect plenty of accessories to go around. Nine Nice and New Things From Urban Outfitters

Urban Outfitters may be the go-to fashion and décor shop for high school and college kids, but the retailer's inventory is looking a little more grown-up these days. For instance, the Carnival Slipper Chair ($325) cues in on the ikat trend in a sophisticated, Pottery Barn-like palette. Like this ripe find? Then, read more.

The butterfly chair has always been a favorite of youngsters, but the Leather Butterfly Chair Cover and Frame ($248) leather update makes it much more mature.

Nice and New: Blu Dot For Urban Outfitters

The two-architect, one-sculptor trio behind contemporary furniture company Blu Dot has done it again. This time, making their streamlined, mid-century-inspired designs available to the younger, broker set. Blu Dot has debuted an exclusive collection of small modern furniture exclusively for Urban Outfitters. As it stands, the line includes a set of white and yellow Alvar Aalto-esque stools/side tables; a powder-coated steel sling chair; an asymmetric, architectural side table; a three-tiered, lily pad-esque white metal and faux bois side table; a sleek console with baby blue and yellow sliding doors; and a low, pared-down, grownup futon of a sofa.

Aesthetically, the collection stays true to Blu Dot's roots, with the same sense of utility, modernity, and nostalgia you see in other products. But the MDF used to make every piece but the seating is not to be overlooked. Although it may be more affordable than other Blu Dot items, $548 for an MDF console is not what I call a bargain. Pretty, though!

Steal of the Day: Shanghai Etched Metal Lantern

I think I'm developing a lantern problem, and it's only getting worse as I spend more time out of doors this month! As the nights get warmer, I want to dine and relax beneath the stars, with the twinkling light of hanging lanterns to keep me company. This Shanghai Small Etched Metal Lantern (on sale for $7.99, originally $12) is so charming. Pair a few of them with some DIYed recycled glass chandeliers, and you have the makings for a perfect Summer evening party. The painted metal lantern's intricate etching will cast pretty patterns all over your party, and the hooped handle will fit perfectly over tree branches or even on a length of clothesline.

Urban Outfitters is reclining retro-style with its latest tufted velvet furniture. In addition to the Lana Tufted Velvet Pouf, the Antoinette Fainting Sofa ($575), now in more colors, nods to the old-time look with its name.
