Inspired: Kate Hudson at Beverly Hills Burberry Opening

On Monday, Kate Hudson arrived at the grand re-opening of the Burberry Beverly Hills store looking as gorgeous as ever. But we all know Kate looks fab even when she's not all dolled up for an A-List event. What struck me about this photo wasn't Hudson's attire — the boxy Burberry dress isn't the most flattering — but the palette is awe-inspiring. I adore the chartreuse shade of this silk dress mixed with the black and gray floor decorations and the beige walls. It instantly triggered the thought of one of my favorite crave worthy items, the Rug Company Durbar Hall Rug ($1,795- 25,920). My vision is to use the Durbar Hall Rug as a base, and from there add elements in the phenomenal palette. I thought I'd design a bedroom around it, the focal point being a chartreuse tufted headboard. I created two sitting areas, and then added bedroom essentials like a dresser and a bookcase. Crave Worthy: The Rug Company Durbar Hall Rug

It's no wonder I felt an instant attraction to The Rug Company Durbar Hall Rug ($1,795- $25,920); the chartreuse and charcoal flocked rug is designed by Designers Guild — a favorite luxury home furnishing brand of mine. Made of 100 knot, Tibetan wool and silk, it's a high-quality rug that would probably outlive me, if I could ever afford to make the splurge. Its flowing branches and botanicals are certainly feminine enough for a bedroom, but I'd love to see it in a formal dining room with a glossy credenza and a noir chandelier, tempered by a slightly rustic wood dining table. What do you think? Do you love it, or am I all alone on this one?

Nice and New: Kelly Wearstler Rugs For the Rug Company

According to LA Times, Kelly Wearstler is the first American interior designer to create a collection for the London-based The Rug Company. There are currently eight of her designs on the company's website. The ethereal, organic feel of these designs is a clear departure from the Hollywood Regency style that she's known for. But, she says, "That's so last Tuesday," anyhoo. They range from $80 to $130 per square foot — pretty pricey, but that's to be expected from the glamazon. She'll also be launching collections with Groundworks at Lee Jofa and Cole & Son. This one has her finger in every pie, doesn't she?

Casa Craving Recap: Loud Rug, Quiet Room

While browsing the divine web site of The Rug Company the other day, I came across this Paul Smith Swirl Rug and thought it would be fun try try to design a room around such a loud design. So for last week's Casa Craving Challenge, I asked readers to design a quiet living area with this rug as the centerpiece.

Everyone worked within similar parameters, picking minimalist furniture with a few bold accents. But the swirl rug was a jumping off point for several wildly different styles, from earthy accents to Asian-inspired looks. You can see all of the loud rug pairings here, as well as the lists users created with their items. (Learn how to create your own lists here.) Here are a few of my favorites.

Look #1, designed by Jackieos, who explains: "I chose black and white furniture to tone it down a bit. But I like the furniture and accessories to have a character of their own, so I hunted down a couple of shapely and sexy silhouettes."

Look #2, designed by Katherynn, whose living-room style finds a perfect balance between splashes of bright colors and classically regal furniture. I especially love the subtle metal accents.

Look #3, designed by TrinityOne, who says she loved the colors and curve in the rug "so I wanted to extend those into the room." I particularly like her use of dark wood here.

Casa Craving Challenge: Loud Rug, Quiet Room

Every Thursday on CasaSugar, I'll give you a decorating challenge and ask you to go Casa Craving for items that fit the look. (Here's a post explaining what a Casa Craving is and how to create one.) While browsing the divine web site of The Rug Company the other day, I came across this Paul Smith Swirl Rug and thought it would be fun try try to design a room around such a loud design.

For this week's Casa Craving Challenge, I'd like you to design an understated living room with this rug as the centerpiece. So let's all create Casa Cravings for furniture, lighting, and accents that would be complementary, but quiet. I, for example, would use a white sofa, light wood furniture, and a few bold accents to play off the colors in the rug.

Steal of the Day: The Company Store Elia Rug

If my recent roundup has you itching for some flocking, I'm here to ease your pain. The Company Store Elia Rug ($69-$382) has the look of rich damask flocking, without the heavy price tag. You can get yours in blue, chocolate, green, or natural, but I'd suggest steering clear of the cotton-candy blue, so you don't overdo it. I think the open, spacious feel of this rug gives it a contemporary look that offsets the Baroque roots of the design quite well. How would you build a room around this rug?

Steal of the Day: The Company Store Honeycomb Rug

I may be biased because I grew up with a beekeeper father who wore a full-body bee suit and churned out bear-shaped jars of honey, but I'm sweet on the hexagonal pattern of honeycomb. If you had chicken-coop wire window and picked up this Company Store Honeycomb Rug ($58.99 - $256.99), I might just have to sting you out of jealousy. I'd caution against purchasing the 8-x-10 size though, the bold pattern and colors might overpower your room, giving you a buzzing headache.

Coming Soon: Anji Mountain Bamboo Shag Area Rugs

I can't get enough of shag rugs lately: I adore the look, and I love the feel of them under my toes. So I'm really excited about this area rug made from a blend of 80 percent sustainable bamboo and 20 percent cotton.

With a texture similar to silk or cashmere, the Anji Mountain Bamboo Shag Area Rugs (via Behind the Curtains) sound absolutely luxurious, and the durable and anti-bacterial material is also luxuriously practical. The rugs will be available in two sizes - 5 x 8 and 7 x 10 - and five rich colors; I particularly love the sage shade and the pewter (pictured).
