Julie Neill Shows Saints Love With Who Dat Chandeliers

Super Bowl XLIV may be complete, but excitement over The Saints' win isn't dimming anytime soon. That's especially true if you've got a Who Dat chandelier hanging in your home! In a fit of "Geaux Saints" spirit last week, New Orleans-based lighting designer Julie Neill cooked up these two chandeliers in honor of her beloved Saints team. Bearing the boys' signature black and gold colors, with dangling Mardi Gras beads and fleur-de-lys, she says, "They were meant to embody the spirit of New Orleans, which is beauty with a sense of fun, and some Mardi Gras thrown in, too!"Most sports-inspired décor or "memorabilia" tends to be tacky, but Neill's chandeliers are quite sophisticated, and a great compromise for a "man cave" that meets a lady's standards, too. In fact, Julie tells me that one customer ordered one for his TV room where he and his friends watch all the Saints games "religiously." Of course, it works in the Saints favor that their logo bears a symbol as pretty as the fleur-de-lys. I'd love to have the black chandelier even if I weren't a Saints fan - how glam! Our recent Artist of the Day Amanda Stone Talley, who gave us a tour of her New Orleans carriage house, was inspired by The Saints to create a black and gold painting, just in time for the Super Bowl. Considering the big ole Who Dat sign she's hung in her studio window, her inspiration is no secret. But since her pieces are abstract, it would make just a subtle nod to the team in your home. Meanwhile, George Rodrigue's Blue Dog and Drew Brees Print is a much more obvious declaration of fan loyalty. Tell me, would you buy artwork inspired by your favorite team?

Indianapolis and New Orleans Museums Duke It Out Over the Super Bowl

Last week, art blogger Tyler Green tried to arrange a Super Bowl art loan bet between the Indianapolis Museum of Art and the New Orleans Museum of Art via Twitter. The museum directors stepped up pretty quickly and wagered to loan their competitors a beloved art work for a three-month period, if their city's respective football team lost the Super Bowl. After some very competitive back and forth banter via Twitter and emails concerning which pieces would be loaned, the two arrived at a deal: if the Saints win (Geaux Saints!), the IMA will loan The Fifth Plague of Egypt (1800, left) by Joseph Turner to the NOMA for three months, and if the Colts win, NOMA will loan Ideal View of Tivoli (1644, right) by Claude Lorrain to IMA. Who knew landscape paintings could be so cutthroat?

Another week down, eh ladies? There were highs, there were certainly lows and, of course, there was ::jazz hands::fashion::jazz hands::. So what went down? Heeere we go:

Anna Nicole Smith passed away. We have a feeling this story, which is already incredibly complicated and shady, is just getting started.
Fashion week came, and went and while we were more interested in the front rows and catfights and cute Bilsons, our fancy sister was around to talk shop.
We had a breakthrough with Fergie. Though Carmen should probably start getting angry about appearance copyright infringement.
OMG Ryan Phillippe is dating A CHILD! Or, you know, not.
Mischa and Cisco broke up, but he was the last to know. Something about an overexposed bag.
Head in Hands. Oh, Britney.

The Superbowl Done Doggie Style

Folks, I bring you the 2007 Puppy Bowl and it's practically the real deal--only better. There's the grassy field, the referee, the tackling- while one team of dogs is pitted against another. The only real difference is that these athletes have no qualms with a little post-game cuddle time. And that makes all the difference.

Where Will You Be Watching The Super Bowl?

Just buying chips and dip and a 12-pack of beer doesn't cut it for Super Bowl parties any more, according to USA Today. Apparently, if you want your friends to pick your place for the big game, you may have to pony up for a flat-screen TV, digital tuner and surround-sound speakers so they can spectate with quality.

To be honest, my fella and I always watch the big game at my best friend's because she and her boyfriend have the coolest TV ever AND they make the best bean dip you can imagine, but I can't see myself ever running out to get a new set just to draw the crowd to my place.

Okay, I’m willing to admit I might be a little weird. Every year for Christmas I ask for some sort of fitness thing. One year it was a BOSU ball, then next it was boxing gloves and last year it was kettlebells, and every December 26th I bring my new haul to the gym where I can’t wait to try it out. (Needless to say last year the 35 lb. kettlebell proved a little tricky. I am obsessed with using Valsides for killer core exercises and sliding lunges that totally tighten up your butt and thighs. Plus you can use them in your living room or pack them and take them anywhere!

GymBoss Trainer $19.95: This is totally on my list this year. The Gymboss lets you set a repeating interval timer perfect for circuit training, intervals or running workouts (think 30 seconds on, one minute off). You don’t have to struggle to set your watch or look at it throughout your workout since Gymboss is small and clips onto your shirt.

Foam Roller $34: If you’ve ever had sore muscles you have to get one of these. It will open up your back and make those miles on your legs melt away. Simply a must for runners or, let’s be honest, anyone who uses a computer.

TRX Training System $199: Oh I LOVE this thing!!! BTW so do Jennifer Lopez, Gisele Bundchen and Superbowl MVP Drew Brees. This is a complete gym in a bag. You can do thousands of exercises, take it anywhere (all you need it a doorway or high place to anchor it), plus it’s only two pounds so you can totally pack it in your bag for business travel and vacations. This thing rocks. I can’t say enough good things about it so I think I’ll just have to devote a later post and video to my TRX devotion so you can get the full effect. Bottom line…if you’re OK spending a little more money you must get this thing. (Good news is you could probably give up your gym membership).

Lululemon Triumphant Tote $118: Not only is this bag waterproof but it’s also made of material that won’t cause your Lulu pants to pill when it rubs against them. Plus I think carrying a cute bag would totally be motivation to hit the gym, right? This bag even has a laptop pocket so it’s business and pleasure!

iPad 2 $499: All right, this is a big ticket item but if you’re thinking of one for Christmas I’ll tell you it is my workout secret. I load my favorite TV shows and movies onto the iPad and I actually look forward to my cardio sessions. Consider it a health care cost.
