Say goodbye to your corkboard. Showcasing your mementos and photographs just got a whole lot easier. Now through Aug.

The great thing about memory boards is that they don't require any magnets or pushpins to hang your mementos and notes as cork boards and refrigerators doors do. But, none of these options are very attractive or interesting looking. An alternative is to hang an old shutter from a flea market or your own house horizontally on the wall, and display your photographs, memos, and souvenirs by setting them between its slats.

Currently, this is my favorite spot in my house. However, before I moved this chair into the corner, our giant television, which sat on an equally imposing Tansu chest, took up this entire area, and basically obscured the window. These tall, thin windows, which flank either side of our fireplace, are a lovely architectural feature, and I was, frankly, horrified that they'd been covered up by a television.

In some homes (um, including my own), the fireplace mantel, which is often the main focal point in the living room, is piled with photos, candles, coasters — you name it. While it's a logical place to display knickknacks and mementos, often this excess can look cluttered. On the other hand, a spare mantel often looks naked.

Ah, the entry. It's the first interior space that guests will see, and it's the first place you step when you enter your home after a long day at work or play. The entry room is asked to do so many things: provide storage for jackets and shoes, display mementos, file mail, and store outdoor and pet equipment.

I finally got around to one of the many DIY projects on my To Do list this weekend. I tend to make it a habit of taking Polaroids whenever my friends show up at my house, as a visual guest book, if you will. So for some time, I've had a stock full of Polaroids to display, and too many to frame individually.

My fiancé and I go on a lot of backpacking and hiking trips, and always tend to pick up some small memento during our trip. The horseshoe in this photo was discovered on a trail after we came across two coyotes while backpacking in the eastern Sierras. The rocks were found on other backpacking trips, while the one in the extreme foreground were slipped into pockets immediately after we got engaged on the coast in the Redwoods.

I love the idea of using clothes as wall art, and this photo from Poppytalk proves that you don't need a big budget to create one-of-a-kind decor. Here, old mementos and a vintage-y dress play off a bright modern chair.
