Open House: Do You Live in Your Dream Town?
Apr 25 2009 - 5:30am Burford, this quintessential English town in the Cotswolds, recently placed sixth on Forbes's list of Europe's Most Idyllic Places to Live, ranked higher than Rome and Budapest. With neighbors like Kate Moss, Kate Winslet, and members of Radiohead, I don't doubt that this picturesque village is a wonderful place to put down roots. But, to each her own, right?

It would be Amsterdam, love a bike town, (what I consider) great politics, and an economic and financial powerhouse. But the food and the tourists, yuck. Paris. The food, the art, the trains. Maybe Brussels? Never been, but is it so bad to ask for 65 and dull sun all the time?

Hmmm, what I'd consider a dream town now and later would probably be different. Europe seems like a good fit for me but it's out of my price range at present. Asia? So many wonderful places in the world.

My dream town is the town where I went to college-Boone, North Carolina. It's in the mountains and there's a great downtown area with fun little shops. I went there for camp every summer since I was 12 and then went there for college. I love the town and I'm moving back this summer to work with a theater there. I'm a singer so it's doubtful that my career will allow me to stay there but if I could I would settle down there.

The Cotswolds really are lovely, especially Painswick. I felt as though I were stepping back in time when I visited the area.

I'd say San Francisco is pretty ideal: you have a thriving city filled to the brim with culture and creativity, where human rights and the environment are paramount. Not to mention the weather is sublime and the proximity to wine country is definitely a plus.

I fell completely in love with Jackson Hole, Wyoming about 15 years ago and have dreamed about it ever since. It's right outside of Yellowstone and Grand Teton national parks. So, the land is protected by the government and supposedly will never be over-developed. George Lucas, Harrison Ford, and I think Sandra Bullock all have houses out there. It's amazing and beautiful and INSANELY expensive.

I also have a fascination with London, Seattle, and San Francisco.

I really love where my husband and I live. I wouldn't say it's my 'dream' town but we live 10/15 minutes from Indianapolis, we have 4 parks, lots of shopping, great food and it's just a nice town to live in. I'm not always a fan of the fickle Indiana weather though!

I never thought about this. But I think I'm happy where I am, too. I live in a major metropolis city, where there is everything -- diverse culture (which brings great food), various landscapes, entertainment, to die-for weather, etc.

Maybe when I retire, I may relocate to somewhere else (for a change). We'll see.

Definitely not. I live about an hour from where I grew up just because it's the biggest "city" around. It definitely isn't where I want to live for the rest of my life. I think I want to live in the Denver-Boulder area but I've never been so I'm not completely sure. It just looks beautiful and the weather seems amazing to me.

We live in a tiny beach community and plan to never leave it or our house. I love our location. We park our cars on Thursday night and rarely drive through the weekend as we have everything within walking or biking distance.

My brother-in-law got married in Burford this Christmas and it was truly as beautiful as the pictures suggest. I'm not surprised it made Forbes' top ten. I'm happy with my current home town though, San Francisco. Can't beat it.

I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be right now. It's not idyllic or anything like that, but it's right. I think that's more important than how it looks on a postcard.

Heck no. It's too conservative where I live, and certainly not enough culture or style. Why not move then? It's just not the right time.

Not perfect, but I've been in much worse, so I can't complain!

First, my dream city is Chicago, but I am going to be licensed to practice law in a different state than Illinois. At this time I just don't have the time, money, etc. to take another bar exam.

I would also only want to live there while young, when I have a family and children I need to be back near my family, so although I don't love where they live it is not where, but who is there that makes it the perfect town.

I live in ONE of my dream towns...Oxford, MS. A gorgeous little Southern town where you know someone everywhere you go...but which also houses a top public university, providing the community with an abundance of culture, free thinkers, amazing restaurants, great music, SEC sports, etc. I can't say I wouldn't love to have a few vacation homes elsewhere in a perfect world...but right now I have NO desire to be anywhere else.

I live in Manhattan Beach now and love it. There are only a couple other places I'd rather live: Santa Barbara, Del Mar and Rancho Santa Fe. But for now...I'm in love with my area. Smiling
