In a recent New York Times article, designer Jonathan Adler shopped for design-savvy menorahs. The article explains the difficulties and joys in hunting for the perfect menorah.
"Menorahs are a really fun design challenge," [Adler] said, because they have a clear set of requirements: The menorah holds eight candles lined up at about the same height — symbolizing the ancient miracle at the center of the holiday, when a small amount of oil was said to burn for eight nights — and a ninth candle, the shamash, which stands at a different height and is used for lighting the others.

Before the advent of cordless phones (and cell phones and Bluetooth), a telephone was a stationary thing. Back then, the place to answer calls and chat was called "a gossip bench" — see photos here. This long-lost breed of furniture is one part table (to hold your telephone) and one part chair or bench.

Every time I watch Modern Family, I always pay attention to the decor choices used throughout the three families' homes. It's no big surprise that Cameron and Mitchell's home is my favorite, since I featured it the other week.
I really love this curvy, white table lamp that they've placed on the credenza, which you can spot in the right of this photo.

Everybody loves a good scandal. Especially when it's the "scandalously priced markdowns" at Jonathan Adler. The always happy-chic shop has reduced a selection of accessories including dinnerware, bathware, porcelain frames, table linens, and rugs by 20 to 50 percent.

These chairs, from a New York residence designed by Jonathan Adler, may look like bamboo, but you can rest assured that they're made out of wood.
Bamboo-look furniture, accents, and chandeliers have been popular for more than two centuries of interior design. Whether used in a zen-like spare and modern home or a Palm Beach-style beach pad, bamboo-look pieces can look great in a variety of homes.

When furnishing this year's Hampton Designer Showhouse, Manhattan-based interior designer Brad Ford made the unusual, and delightful, decision to replace sofas with porch swings. Inspired by Ford's out-of-the-box decision, I decided to check out some other hanging furniture that would look great on the inside of your home. While some of the choices are classics, others are definitely a bit more unusual.

Jonathan Adler has harmoniously merged two of my favorite trendy motifs, teardrops and birds, in his new Pop Menagerie Bird Box ($68), and I totally approve. At 10-by-5.5 inches, this little porcelain box won't hold much, but it will bring some whimsical geometric color and pattern into any room. I'd use it to hold keys in an entryway or jewelry on a nightstand.

Jonathan Adler's new Animal Napkin Rings ($18 each) are irresistibly adorable. But, a whole set of four will cost you $72 smackers! I don't know about you, but I'd prefer to spend those dollars on a good bottle of wine or an indulgent menu.
