While I love hot Summer days, I'm not so fond of uncomfortable, muggy, steaming-hot Summer nights. I'm a big fan of a good night's rest, thank you very much, and I get pretty irritated when soaring temperatures deprive me my seven solid hours. Since I don't have air conditioning at my house, when the temperatures climb, I have to be innovative.

San Francisco is in the midst of heat wave, and as much as I love putting on my Summer dresses, I'm not a fan of looking like a stick of melted butter. If the temperature in your 'hood hasn't risen yet, trust me, it will. So, I have a few tips for conquering the heat when it does.

In the New York Times article Chilled by Choice, writer Penelope Green interviews a number of people across the country living in cold climates (such as New York and Colorado) who choose to live in a home with no heating. In the Winter. Many of these folks' homes are an average of 30 to 40 degrees in the Winter, and they point to a number of reasons for their choice to live without heat.
