In today's edition of Gwyneth Paltrow's GOOP newsletter, she has offered six of her favorite hotels in New York City to her readers, should they be planning a trip to the Big Apple anytime soon. So, I thought I'd offer a little of my design insight on each locale. Paltrow says she's stayed in all but one of them, as she's been redecorating her apartment for a year or so. Since Gwyneth Paltrow was born and partially raised in Los Angeles, she's an expert on where to stay and where to eat in the City of Angels - at least she is according to her weekly newsletter, GOOP. Although I suspect that Paltrow chose the moniker of her newsletter simply because gwynethpaltrow.com was taken, I do find it interesting to hear what she has to say once a week. Paltrow has offered four of her favorite homes away from home to her readers, should they be considering a stay in LA in the future. So, I thought I'd let you in on them, for those of you who don't subscribe, and offer a little of my design insight on each locale. Gwyneth Paltrow's Feminine Hamptons Home

The summer home of Hollywood beauty queen Gwyneth Paltrow and her rocker hubby Chris Martin in Long Island's happening East End, which they purchased for $5.4 million in 2006, is featured in this month's House & Garden, and the word breathtaking doesn't begin to describe it. Paltrow, who took the digs' design into her own hands, chose a cool palette and clean lines, creating a space that is both functional for her family of four and illustrative of their individual styles. She stuck to muted tones throughout and used patterns sparingly, very much like her killer wardrobe. Martin's rock-and-roll vibe and UK heritage is asserted with needlework art by Ann Carrington depicting the Crown Jewels, and a geometric-patterned wallpaper in the powder room and charcoal cabinets in the kitchen bring the noir rocker look to a more sophisticated level. Sadly, though, there is no yellow to be found. The couple's three year old daughter, Apple, even had a hand in the design; she chose the fabrics for her canopy bed. Paltrow also made the place kid-friendly with stepping stools throughout for Apple and her one-year old brother, Moses. It's understandable to be envious of this superstar family, but you don't have to be: the prices of their décor range from the remote Tord Boontje Blossom Chandelier ($22,500) to the very near CB2 appetizer plates ($2.50). Home Away From Home: Hotel La Mamounia

While you were spending Thanksgiving with family and friends, Jennifer Aniston, Gwyneth Paltrow, and other celebrities were in Morocco, celebrating the reopening of the Hotel La Mamounia in Marrakech.

What's so fabulous about this hotel that Hollywood's A-listers decided to drop everything and drop in? Pretty much everything. Originally opened in 1923, the hotel hosted famous names throughout history, including Franklin Roosevelt and Charlie Chaplin, and it recently underwent a $176 million makeover. The 136 rooms, 71 suites, and three private riads got an updated Art-Deco-meets-Moroccan look designed by an expert team led by Jacques Garcia. Feast on the fabulous eye candy when you read more.

Cameron Diaz's Tip For Finding Eco-Friendly Furniture

In one of Gwyneth Paltrow's recent GOOP newsletters, Cameron Diaz shared her tip for finding eco-friendly furniture and a favorite resource for upholstery fabrics:

Flea markets, second-hand stores, and yard sales provide beautiful, well-made clothing and furniture, that can be reupholstered, tailored, or recycled into something completely different. I love hunting for treasures and finding beautiful things that seem to tell a whole story. Consider updating an old chair in one of these beautiful, sustainably produced fabrics.
