Lately, I've been showing you ways to go green without spending money, since being eco-friendly isn't always about dollar bills. Sometimes, though, all it takes to get into the earth's circle of friends is to spend your money differently.Google knows what I'm talking about. The Internet monster has switched up its lawn maintenance routine by abandoning a lawn-mowing service for a more holistic approach — the service of goats.

Living in San Francisco, where Google is headquartered, I have heard plenty of tales of the company's unconventional office culture and environment, including free food mandates, excellent chefs, in-house masseuses, arcade rooms, off-site meetings in breweries and at fun spots like Disneyland, not to mention bouncy balls galore and tons of branded schwag. So, when I came across a photo of Google's Zurich office, I wasn't very surprised, so much as I felt a pang of jealousy — although, I can't complain about Sugar HQ's swank new space.
While bouncy balls also float freely there, you may, in addition, hold a conference in a gondola car bedecked in ski gear or wrapping in a fishing net, take a break on a massage chair in an aquarium, brainstorm with co-workers while sitting in a canoe, spend a delicate few competing in Guitar Hero, or shoot down to lunch on a playground slide.

My buddy geeksugar posted a poll about this Google News Cushion ($120), and I'm curious to know what you guys think. Designed by Elodie Blanchard, the statement-making pillow is emblazoned with the top 10 Google News stories of 2006. (2003 and 2005 versions are also available.) The more I look at the limited-edition design, the more fascinating it is— though it feels slightly exploitative to have a pillow that reads "Hurricane Katrina" on my couch.

In big cities, Craigslist is the master when it comes to looking for apartments. But, unfortunately people tend to fudge about what neighborhood their listings are in. Google Mapping dozens of listings a day can really cut into your day job — and who wants to be homeless and jobless?

I just spotted these grass tiles in the portfolio of UK photographer James Merrell, and I'm absolutely charmed. I have no clue who makes them; I did a quick Google but no such luck. I think they'd be really fun in a small space like a bathroom or a closet, but in a large room the trompe-l'œil effect could be overwhelming.

Apartment hunting is a necessary evil. It's not fun, but you can't fake it either — unless you actually like crashing with your parents. Short of throwing money at a broker, there aren't too many secrets to apartment hunting; you've just got to search the local papers, classifieds, and online agency listings, cruise the neighborhoods you like for signs, and of course, scour Craigslist in depth.

If you've read the first part of my lesson on collecting art and learned all you can, you can move on to beginning your collection. The cardinal rule of collecting art is: Only buy what you love. Your collection should reflect your tastes and sentiments.
