Desire/Acquire: Rubie Green Tillinghast Fabric

Don't get me wrong: I absolutely adore Rubie Green textiles. But the label's stylish and eco-conscious fabrics are not exactly wallet-conscious. This cheerful, Chippendale-esque Tillinghast fabric goes for $90 a yard. It's true, there are fabrics much more expensive. But this price tag adds up when you're ordering drapes for every window in your living room, or covering the whole canvas of a chair, and then you pay your upholsterer. Luckily, I know one fabric with a similar sunny yellow trellis pattern to save you some dimes. Want to see it?

Guess Who Designed This Wall Art?

I spotted this image in the portfolio of New Zealand-based photographer Emily Andrews and I love the way the silvery grays of the wall art play off of the rich patina of the industrial chairs. And the gray cat, too! The wall art is made from stretched fabric by a very famous textile company. Can you name the company?

Roundup: Burlap Bonanza

I'm really loving the look of burlap lately. Not only does it have a quaint, understated look, but the natural material juxtaposes really nicely with all the glossy, modern things I'm drawn to. It also balances the punch of bright colors well, such as the turquoise cross on this Wisteria Nautical Signal Flag Pillow ($69). From throw pillows and bed skirts to pendant lights and canopy chairs, burlap comes in all shapes, sizes, and forms for the home. If you're craving it as much as I am, you're in for a treat!

Cool Idea: Fabric-Painted Curtain Panels

For an accent that's often merely decorative, curtain panels are expensive. You can buy affordable ones from shops like IKEA, but that means you only get the pick of the rather generic litter - and the same ones as every other penny-pinched decorator in the world.

So I was excited to see how High-Heeled Foot in the Door personalized a set of solid white IKEA panels using fabric spray paint. Inspired by a sunny yellow skirt she'd seen at Kate Spade, this resourceful lady painted 7" wide horizontal stripes on her basic panels. She first taped off the stripes before painting, but all the project really requires is paint, tape, a tape measure, construction paper, and scissors. Learn the steps here.

Casa Quickie: Try Curtains Outdoors

With so many great outdoor fabrics on the market (including Trina Turk's), there's no reason not to bring textiles into your outdoor space. I think outdoor curtains are supremely chic. More importantly, they offer shade, as well as protection from breeze. There are plenty of colors and patterns to choose from for your outdoor space. I think there's something really regal and sophisticated about solid white, though. It's so ethereal, and it's definitely a classic. Have you considered hanging curtains outdoors?

Finnish textile designer Marimekko has plenty of iconic prints that, if you read my post on how to Marimekko your whole house, you'll know have been used everywhere from wallpaper to bedding to upholstery to handbags. Unfortunately, even a good thing can get old. So, I'm pleased to share Marimekko's Fall 2009 Fabric Collection with you, which will hopefully freshen things up. Some of these designs are brand spankin' new, while others have livened up your favorite patterns with new colorways. Most fabrics should be available for purchase at Always Mod shortly. Nice and New: Trina Turk Outdoor Fabrics for Schumacher

Back in October, I let you know about Trina Turk's foray into interiors with a collection of home furnishings and an outdoor upholstery fabric line. Well, her collection of California-inspired indoor/outdoor printed fabrics is here. The line features signature patterns from her apparel collections as well as many inspired by the SoCal architecture, landscape, and lifestyle. Her bright, breezy colorways are ideal for outdoor Summer décor, including watery blues, citrus shades, and earth tones. My favorite is the Fronds Print, which has a leafy, decidedly graphic look. Her Trellis Print is a must have for those of you with a thing for Hollywood Regency style. And the Sunglass Print has a vintage, Jackie O. look that just makes me laugh. Desire/Acquire: Madeline Weinrib Zig Zag Rug

The cotton flatweave Madeline Weinrib Zig Zag Rug is one of my all-time favorite designs (see it in a room here), but unfortunately it's also quite pricey - if you must "inquire for price," don't bother. Luckily, there are two much more affordable alternatives. To see them, read more.

The West Elm Zig Zag Rug ($39-$649) has a similar traditional chevron pattern, is hand-woven and handloomed, and made from 80 percent wool and 20 percent cotton. It's also reversible! It's available in an ivory/espresso/flax colorway or iron/ivory/fez red.
If those colors aren't up your alley, you can get yours the DIY way. With basic sewing skills, you can transform a basic stripe pattern into your beloved chevron with a few supplies and some patience. Learn the steps here.Source
