Steal of the Day: John Robshaw Pondicherry Duvet

Back in October, I rounded up some stylish finds at HSN, and was surprised to see designs by Nate Berkus, John Robshaw, and Colin Cowie in store. Well, I just revisited and found a slew of stylish finds on sale, and I couldn't help but pass the word along. I'm loving this John Robshaw Pondicherry Duvet ($99.95, reduced from $200). Its soft, teal, hand-blocked medallion print is light and beachy - great for a Summer house. The duvet has a button closure, hand-stitched detailing, and is made from 400 thread count Egyptian cotton. It's definitely a steal if I ever saw one.

Blissliving Home has released a handful of new Fall bedding sets, and I am particularly enthralled by the Amelie Duvet Set ($225). Not only does it share the name of a quirky French film we all know and love, but also that of one of my top two favorite wine bars in San Francisco. And, if that weren't enough to get me into bed (har har), it has a perfect balance of femininity and modernity. Its large print tree graphic (much like the Marimekko Himmeli Set) gives it a contemporary earthy look. Its ombré effect keeps it trendy. And, its misty purples and pinks add femme appeal. I could do without the sheen, though. What do you think?

One small change you can make in your bedroom that will have a vast visual effect - as evidenced by Zoë's before and after -is to introduce a new duvet cover. The Williams-Sonoma Home Iron Gate Crewel Duvet Cover ($348-$448) may not be the most affordable one, but its white-on-white or black-on-white pattern is certainly versatile enough for many color schemes. While its name suggests it's inspired by the interlacing design of antique iron gates, I'm also getting a Van Cleef and Arpels vibe from it, as well as a resemblance to Dwellstudio's Sketch textiles, both of which I love. The graphic quality would also suit both modern and traditional homes. Would this duvet work in your chambre?

I love the botanical silhouettes on this Blissliving Anis Duvet Set ($200), and the playful pink and green embroidered songbirds are super sweet, if those are your colors. If it weren't for the splashes of color, I'd think the black and white pattern was too cooler-than-thou to make the cut in my bedroom, but alas—colors save the day. A duvet is a plush bed cover, often stuffed with down or an equally fluffy synthetic fiber, that is typically paired with a removable, washable duvet cover. Duvets are placed atop bedsheets, like a bedspread or quilt, to provide the decorative finish for a bed.

The benefits of duvets include warmth, versatility, and washability. The cover can easily be removed when it needs laundering or when you get bored and decide to redecorate. The downside, however, is putting the cover back on the duvet after washing, which can often be a very frustrating process.

Dear Casa,
I am trying to track down a duvet cover/comforter that I saw on an episode of Dexter. I have exhausted the web and searched everywhere, but nothing. The duvet is a turquoise/teal blue with a gold iridescence to it. I would like to find it or something similar. You can see the duvet cover around minute 1:55 in this YouTube video. If you have any advice on what I can do to locate a similar duvet, I would really appreciate it.

Good find! That duvet cover has a sharp teal color, and it pairs well with her orange sheets. I wasn't able to track down the exact same item, but this teal Blissliving Max Peacock Comforter ($235–275) is a close second. This one is actually ribbed which gives it a really luxurious texture, and the underside is chocolate brown which gives you some versatility if you want to switch things up. The satin fabric also has an iridescence to it, which sounds like what you were looking for.

You can also just head to a fabric retailer like Calico Corners to find the exact silk fabric you want. Then, have a duvet cover made or make it yourself; it's a fairly simple sewing project.

If that's not for you, here are a few other options:
