Reinventing an old classic, the Victorian ceiling medallion, the Mr Kaliski Rose Clock ($111, plus shipping from Britain) is quite the feminine and modern timepiece. Car-quality paint in white, pink, gold, or gray gives it a contemporary, industrial look. As much as I think it's a pretty little clock, I'd prefer not to spend over 100 smackers on the thing.

I spotted this photo in the portfolio of photographer Joanna Henderson and I'm absolutely in love with it. Not only is the light beautiful, but the space couldn't be any more understatedly elegant. The trompe-l'œil grandfather clock is simply great for that white wall, and it pairs perfectly with those bentwood chairs.

In case this young girl is worried about running late, she can double-check her train times on the 19th-century clock above her head. Featured in the 1920s film Brief Encounter, the clock at Carnforth Railway Station in England is wound by hand each week. While I'm not keen on winding a clock weekly, I do love this clock's bold, basic look.

You don't see grandfather clocks much these days. When you've got an iPhone or BlackBerry, who needs a clock or a watch? But they are beautiful, and I'm soothed by the quiet tick-tock of their hands.

The Twice Twice Clock ($150) would look right at home in a gender-neutral bedroom. Its walnut finish and rectangular shape are definitely masculine, but its neon pop of color, courtesy of the clock hands, imbues the clock with a fun, feminine modernity. Designed by Jonas Damon, who seems to have an obsession with clocks, as well as simple, elegant shapes, you couldn't go wrong with adding any of Damon's designs to your home.

Clocks have long been a fixture in homes worldwide, with not only a time-keeping function but also an aesthetic one. But as we've become drawn to our computers, cell phones, PDAs, and electronic kitchen appliances, we've found ourselves with little need for a free-standing clock, and these handsome things have fallen by the wayside. Personally, I like to put my gadgets to rest and out of my bedroom so I can have uninterrupted sleep, but I'll gladly grandfather in a good-looking desk clock.

While I'm definitely a peace-loving gal, I can't deny the influence that war and weaponry have had on home decor as of late. From gun vases to bullet planters, it seems as if product designers have a different definition of homeland security than our national leaders. While this may be a commentary on our society's obsession with weapons, I'm still not necessarily willing to stock my home with guns — be they real or made of ceramic.

Craftster member Ladypie decided to turn this dull Ikea clock into something a little more design forward. Here's how the clock looked before she got her hands on it.

As someone who has never owned a watch, and whose cell phone is practically glued to her hand, I never thought I'd ache for a wall clock. But for Jason Linde Handmade Wenge Veneer Clocks ($110–$130), I do. His clocks have rotating laser-engraved dials and a stationary hand, flipping the face of the traditional clock on its end.
