Help Me Find This Lamp

This Fall when I was staying at Seven Pines, an historic fishing lodge in Wisconsin, I kind of fell in love with this cute little lantern. At the lodge it was wired into the (ancient) electrical system, but I'd be happy to have a similar one that only uses candles.

Casa Cravings: RoxieB's Halloween Decor

I was wondering what Casa readers were up to in terms of Halloween decorating, so I started cruising through the Casa Cravings lists,where I found RoxyB's list.

She has some definitively devious decorations here-if I came across those cats in a dark corner they'd make me scream. How about you? What direction are you going in when it comes to Halloween decor? Scary or sweet?

Casa Craving Recap: Pink Ribbon

Yesterday marked the start of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. So pink (as in pink ribbon) was the inspiration for this week's Casa Craving Challenge, and I asked you guys to design a stylish kitchen around this light pink color, and this SMEG '50 Style Refrigerator.

It wasn't an easy choice but the best rooms opted for a retro, '50s design, or just mid-century accents, which resonated harmoniously with the SMEG refrigerator. Here are my three favorite pink SMEG looks:

Look #1 was designed by paperfairies, who went 100% retro with a '50s diner style table and banquette seating, for a look she calls "Euro modern with diner chic." She chose a silver, black and pink palette to coordinate with the SMEG refrigerator, but didn't go super pink. You can tell that paperfairies really visualized her kitchen, choosing all the details, everywhere from the sleek, white kitchen cabinets down to a kitschy, pink flamingo oven mitt and towel set.

Look #2 was designed by klynnmorton, who gave the SMEG refrigerator all the attention by choosing "a mix of modern stainless steel appliances, a diner style table, and some great patterned chairs." Her kitchen, which she says "cannot get more retro modern than this," is classy, understated, and a place that would be relaxing to walk into. I liked her quirky accents like the bentwood chairs, which picked up the color of the fridge, and the kit kat clock, which both showed character but weren't over-the-top retro.

Look #3 was designed by tdamji who chose a mix of orange and pink for her color palette, along with a lot of stainless steel, and light wood furniture. She showed off her girly side with floral melamine plates, hand-pressed coasters, a cupcake kitchen timer, and adorable petits fours tea lights.

Casa Craving Challenge: Pink Ribbon

Every Thursday on CasaSugar, I'll give you a decorating challenge and ask you to go Casa Craving for items that fit the look. (Here's a post explaining what a Casa Craving is and how to create one.)

The latest Casa Craving Challenge is inspired by the emblem of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, the pink ribbon.

So in this Casa Craving Challenge, I’d like you to design a stylish kitchen around this light pink color. You can go totally pretty-in-pink or use other colors, with calculated punches of pink. To start you off, I’ve chosen this pink SMEG '50 Style Refrigerator ($1,999) to incorporate into each of your kitchens. What furniture, artwork, appliances, tableware, silverware, and other accents would you use to get the look?

Casa Craving Recap: Funky Chair, Functional Room

Last week, I was obsessing over the cool, curvy lines of design collective sixixis' furniture. My favorite piece, the Lounge Daddy chair (approximately $2,900), was the inspiration for last week's Casa Craving Challenge, and I asked you guys to build a functional living room around this funky chair.

Your mission: Let the chair be the life of the party, and surround it with mellower pieces. Even though the chair was very bold, you guys came up with a surprising and stimulating variety of decorating styles. Here are my three favorite funky chair looks.

Look #2, designed by Janna890, offset the severity of the hyper-modern seat with a soft white and seafoam-green palette inspired by nature.

Look #3 was designed by Chancleta, who describes her room like this: "Give this funkadelic chair a funkadelic room with white shag and white fur to shine in. Complement color: Gold."

Casa Craving Challenge: Funky Chair, Functional Room

I've totally been loving the cool, curvy lines of design collective sixixis' furniture. This British design collective transforms locally available unseasoned wood into steambent, curvaceous conversation pieces. My favorite piece of furniture right now is the the Lounge Daddy chair (approximately $2,900).

So in this Casa Craving Challenge, I'd like you to design a functional, cool living room around this chair. But there's one catch: The chair needs to be the life of the party, so surround it with mellower pieces so it can really show its stuff. What sofa, lighting, rugs, and accent pieces would you pair with this cool chair?

Casa Craving Recap: Pink and Gray Palette

I had style on the brain last week during Spring Fashion Week in New York, so for the latest Casa Craving challenge, I decided to use some inspiration from the DKNY runway show.

These colors are really close to the Gypsy Pink and Rockport Gray shades from Benjamin Moore's 2008 Color Trends Report, so your challenge was to design a pink and gray bedroom using this palette.

This was a tough one, but the best rooms pulled off the color combo by going sleek and modern rather than too teeny-boppers. You can see all of the pink and gray Casa Cravings here, as well as the 10 great lists the users created. (TeamSugar has a great tutorial on listmaking if you're not sure how.) Here are a few of my favorites.

Look #1, designed by CocoChic, who says her room is all about glamor: "I kept the palette simple with gray, pink, black, and white. The mirrored tray and Victoria ghost chair add a sense of an old dressing room. The rug is made of FLOR tiles so it can be rearranged at the drop of a hat. Finally, the lamps, bedside tables, and dresser accessories give off a little sparkle."

Look #2, designed by Ejmcmis, who went for a mix of glam and mod, with understated silver curtains, a sophisticated but funky pink chandelier, and black wooden furniture.

Look #3, designed by Jackieos, who calls her bedroom "Chic and timeless. Youthful but classic. Fun yet glamorous. The pink and gray wallpaper sets the tone for all the other hot pinks and grays: silk drapes, bedding, mirrored furniture, 'ghost' style accessories, and a fun rainbow-dipped jeweled chandelier."

It's Spring Fashion Week in New York, and I can't help but notice that many of the hot colors from Benjamin Moore's 2008 Color Trends Report are also showing up on the runway. In particular, these looks from the DKNY show rely heavily on the Gypsy Pink and Rockport Gray.

Casa Craving Recap: A Daring Dining Room

I love the antique-looking paint on these Vintage Aqua Dining Chairs ($350). So for last week's Casa Craving Challenge, I asked you guys to put together a formal dining room with these elegant and funky pieces at the center. The only catch was that aqua shade couldn't show up anywhere else in the room.

Black-and-white ruled the palettes here, with a few surprising accent colors thrown in. I appreciate the wide variety of decorating styles you guys matched with the rather traditional chairs. Look #1, designed by ProperGray, who says: "I do daring by infusing citron and lime greens as a complementary color to the aquamarine chairs. Layered otherwise with a glamorous base of black and white, this formal and eclectic dining room stimulates the mind - and hopefully stimulates the stomach."

Look #3, designed by Ginasugar, who "chose black furniture and white accents so the attention of the room would really focus on the chairs. Then I threw in an old photo of a Hi-Fi for a little retro touch."

I have always loved the aqua-green paint that often shows up on antique furniture, like these Vintage Aqua Dining Chairs ($350) at Jayson Home & Garden. (Thanks to Design Sponge for the tip.) The chairs are elegant but funky and could create an unexpectedly playful look in an otherwise formal dining room.
