Dark Interiors For the Not-So-Dark Decorator

Coveted Crib: Black and White and Modern All Over
I love too many colors and styles to ever go only black, white, and modern, but I applaud he who has the restraint (and the balls) to do it. I spotted this large Georgian house in Tetbury, a small town in — believe it or not — the Cotswolds, and was blown away. Short of a dab of yellow paint in some artwork and its plush green lawn, the house is all black, white, and gray, and each room is essentially either entirely black or white.

Ginnifer Goodwin is one of my favorite characters on Big Love, and she doesn't disappoint off the set either. I love the way that her basic black skirt and sheer top, which she wore at the Dolce and Gabbana flagship boutique opening earlier this week, is given an updated twist, thanks to these unexpected tribal beads.
I was inspired to create a room that employed the same style strategy: basic black, with a tribal twist.

If only my wallet were as big as my eyes, I could have everything I desire. Unfortunately, for many of us style fiends, abstaining from shopping is simply not in the cards. One of my favorite wallpaper retailers, Ferm Living, has a few new things in store that I'm really loving. First of all, I think the way this Sewing Kit Wall Sticker ($57.50) is staged is absolutely hilarious. I think it would be clever to use it around a window or doorway in your home, especially one that doesn't have a lot of molding.
Coveted Crib: Black and White and Cool All Over
With a palette that is mostly black and white, the accents of color in this Stockholm home really pop. Beyond that, Dutch decorator André Schievink courageously mixed minimalism with kitsch, antiques with Ikea, in a way that makes each piece stand out. For instance, in the dining room an ancient dining table is surrounded by plastic Verner Panton S Chairs, and next door a slick modern table lamp sits curiously on a period grand piano.
